in need
Morning Star Rebekah Lodge
was instituted on June 2nd, 1933
with 9 brothers from Western
Star Lodge I.O.O.F. and 31 ladies
receiving the Rebekah Degree.
The first elective officers were
N.G. Mrs. Corrie Dunbar, V.G.
Mrs. Florence Sae lier; Rec. Sec.,
Mrs. Muriel Allen; Treas. Mrs.
Laura Williamson and Fin. Sec.,
Mrs. Sadie McDonald. The late
Mrs. Wrn. Clouse was the first
Chaplain of the Lodge.
When Morning Star Lodge was
first instituted it was a part of
Stratford District. However in
1946 a Lodge was instituted in
Listowel followed by two more,
one in Atwood and one in Monk-
ton. During the year Mrs. Corrie
Dunbar was D.D.P. Later two
more were added to the District
at Exeter andHensall, This made
too many Lodges for one D.D.P.
so a new District was formed
known as Huron District No. 23
comprised of six Lodges includ-
ing Exeter, Hensall, Goderich,
Clinton, Seaforth and Brussels.
The first year in which the
Lodge was active was during the
depression and members had
many opportunities for benevo-
lent work, helping those within
their own membership as well
as others.
In 194'7 a C.P. & T. committee
was formed consisting of mem-
bers from both the I.O.O.F. and
Rebekah Lodge. The committee
raises money through card
parties, hockey games, draws,
etc. With the funds it helps any
one in need in times of sickness,
fire or disaster of any kind. The
committee also have in possess-
ion 4 hospital beds, 4 wheel
chairs, 4 chrome walkrs, 4 pair
crutches and 4 canes. These
are for loan without charge to
anyone in the community.
During the 39 years of its
existence, the Lodge has attended
church services each May at one
of the local Churches with the
Subordinate Lodge and each June
a Memorial Service is held at
the cemetery in memory of de-
parted Sisters and Brothers.
During this time the Lodge
has had 18 Sisters and 413rothers
,pass on to their Eternal Rest.
There have been a few with-
idrawals a few transfers and quite
number of Initiations. At the
present time there is a member-
ship of 4 Brothers and 1'7Sisters.
In concluding its review for
the Centennial Issue, the Lodge
expressed the hope that If Our
Village which flit year is Cele-
brating its 100th Birthday 'has
been a little b better place to
live in having had a Rebekah
Lodge within it during the past
39 ,years";,
