Brussels Legion received its charter in. 1931.
Previous to the formation of
the Brussels Legion a number of
first war veterans were members
of, the Mount Forest. Legion #134.
On the 2nd day of November
l831 a Brussels branch received
a charter in the Canadian Legion
of the. British Empire Service
League.
The names on the charter
were as folloWs: F.W. Bur-
chell; W.H. Bell; S.B. Elliott;
E.Gartpn; G. Harmon; LE. Kelly;
C.F.Lockwood; D. Manning; H.
Phillips; R,Pattric; S.Rutledge
C.H. Stubbert; W. Stiles P.
Sellers; E.H.Thuell; W.E. Willis
I. Pedgriff.
These members gathered
for their business meetings in
private homes, and other private
buildings such as, above the
express office, in 'the American
Hotel, and the town hall. In
1940 the Legion purchased a
building on the main street from
Mrs. Thompson, where all Legion
functions and transactioris were
carried out until a new legion
hall was built and, opened in
1965.
