in 1964
A meeting of interested people
in the arena on November 9,
1964 led to the formation of a
curling club. The outcome of
the meeting was the formation of
the Brussels Curling Club with
the following officers elected:
President - D.A.Rann, 1st. Vice-
Ken Tyerman, 2nd Vice - Stewart
Lowe, Treasurer - Cecil Parker,
Secretary - George Mutter.
By the time the curling season
had opened all the necessary
equipment had been purchased
and 90 paid-up members were
ready to play in the January draw.
The Brussels Curling Club
has been active during the past
eight years with an average mem-
bership of 110-120. The Club,
is affiliated with the Ontario
Curling Association.
The Lady Curlers have their
own organization and are affil-
iated with the South Western
Ontario Ladies Curling Assoc-
iation. The Ladies group are
a great asset to the Club and
have a reputation for the fine
meals they serve at all the local
bonspiels.
In 1967 the Club decided to
renovate the space above the
dressing rooms in the Arena and
make it into a suitable clubroom
for the curlers. This room was
completed for the 1967-68 season
and has proved to be a great
asset for the curling activities.
A kitchen and washroom facili-
ties h.a.ye since been added.
Alt,of these renovations as
well as all equipment have been
paid for by the Curling Club
and at the present time the Club
is free of debt with a favourable
bank balance.
