Through the years succeeding generations have taken pride in their craftsmanship in the wood working trades, including violin construction and carriage making. Born in Scotland in 1862 he came to Canada with his parents in 1871. The family settled on the farm now occupied by a nephew, John Perrie. Brussels were hOzne to an athlete who later became a world champion heavy weight wrestler., Gideon Perrie, a native of Scotland where he was born In 1862 and camp to Canada with his Parents in 1871. The family Settled on the farm near Brussels now occupied, by a nephew, John Perrie. In company with another Brussels yonth, Walter F. Scott, an uncle of Walter Scott of Brussels, the couple became out- standing athletes and became regular competitors inCaledonia games which then, as now, were popular features inontario. Both over 6 foot 3 inches, the boys were often taken for brothers as they took part in the compe- titions. Gideon Perrie specialized in events such as weight lifting and wrestling, while his companion was superior in track and field events. Gaining the liuron and Bruce heavy weight wrestling championship in 1883 Gideon Perrie continued his training and in 1890 was crowned North American champion. Four years later in Philadelphia he gained the right to compete in a world event scheduled for Scotland two years hence. His victory in Scotland in 1896 gave him the worlds champion- ship. In the following years he spent much of his time in training and teaching until 1902 when he mar- ried and retired in Hamilton. Mr. Perrie died in 1910.
