Large attendance at
150th anniversary

A large attendance marked the
one hundred and fifteenth
anniversary of Bluevale Knox
Presbyterian Church Sunday.
Rev. Gordon L. Fish of
Scarborough, formerly of St.
Andrew's, Wingham, was guest
speaker assisted, by Mr. Dennis
Freeman, B.A., student minis-
ter. Special music was under
direction of Mr. Ross Gray and
organist Mrs. Phyllis Hoggart.
Miss Connie Mann and Mr. Mur-
ray Elston contributed solos to
this impressive service.
UCW meets
Mrs. Harvey Edgar, Presi-
dent of the Bluevale U.C.W. con-
ducted their meeting iri the Sunday
School room June 5. "Self-
Seeking" was the theme of the
Worship Service which was under
the leadership of Mrs. Murray
MacFarlane. A dialogue by Mrs.
Keith Johnston, Mrs. Clifford
Brewer, Mrs. Ken Johnston and
Mrs. Alan Campbell was pre-
sented, followed by devotional
meditation and prayer by Mrs.
McFarlane. Misses Joanne
Edgar and Judy Sellers sang a
duet "Joy is like the Rain"
accompanied by Mrs. Glenn Sel-
lers. Miss Mary Edith Garniss
sang a solo "It's a Long Road
to Freedom" accompanied by
Mrs. Carl Johnston. Mrs.Walter
Willets had an interesting read-
ing entitled "Praise". A piano
solo by Mrs. Keith Nicholson
"Dear Hearts and Gentle People"
was enjoyed.
A bale was reported as ready

strings
popular
Besides playing for wedding
receptions and social gatherings
the Walton Silver Strings have
been playing for wedding recep-
tions, the two recent ones were
for Mr. and Mrs. Taylor's 40th
wedding anniversary in the Clin-
ton Orange Hall and Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Bernard's 25th wed-
ding anniversary in the Brus-
sels Legion Hall. They played at
Family Paradise Park, when pro-
ceeds went to the Bunny Bundle
for Crippled Children. They
helped raise money earlier this
year for the Brucefield United
Church and at Londesboro to ,
raise money for new hymnbooks.
They also put on an hour's pro-
gram at Huronview, Clinton rec-
ently, assisted by Marlene Glan-
ville and Vicky Harris, who step-
danced.
Members of the Silver Strings
are: Fay Dalton, 14, daughter of
Mr . and Mrs. Percy Dalton, Fay
plays the piano; Beth McNichol,
12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Glen McNichol. Beth plays the
banjo; Linda Godkin, 13, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin God-
kin. Linda plays the violin; Ray
McNichol, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph McNichol. Ray plays
the guitar, and Alex Robertson,
14, son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Robertson.

Mrs. Edgar reported an in-
teresting meeting held in Blyth.
She urged all meMbers to attend
the June 14 meeting at Meneset-
ung Park.
Mrs. de Koeijer expressed
appreciation for the work done
in the parsonage. Mrs. Aitken
thanked the ladies for kindnesses
shown her.
The men of the 13elgraVe choir
entertained their wives and
friends to dinner at Bluevale
United Church on Wed., June '7
after which a musical program
and games were enjoyed.
Mrs. Carl De Koeijer enter-
tained the Whitechurch U.C.W. at
her home at the United Church
Parsonage June 6.
Celebrate
anniversary
Mr . and Mrs. Burns Moffatt
were honored on the occasion of
their 40th Wedding Anniversary
which occurred June 8th. Their
family entertained them at din-
ner at the Manor House,
Wingham, Sunday, June 4.
Neighbours gathered at their
home to surprise them
Wednesday evening, June 7, when
a presentation was made.
Sunday, June 11, Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Johnston entertained at a
buffet supper for over forty re-
latives. The honoured guests
were presented with a gift of
money.
Mr. and Mrs. Moffatt were
married at St. Helen's Parsonage
by Rev. C. Wilkinson. They
farmed on highway 86 until mov-
ing to Bluevale where they had
a general store. They are now
enjoying retirement in Bluevale.
They have a family of five
children - Floyd of Southampton,
Norma, Mrs. Glenn Galley,
Etiole, Mrs. Harold Johnston of
Morris, Keith and Brian of
Bluevale and eleven grandchild-
ren.
4-H club
Achievement Day was held
at Howick Central School for the
4-H Homemaking Clubs of Bel-
more, Bluevale, Fordwich and
Molesworth. Miss Catherine
Hunt, Home Economist of Huron
was present with leaders Mrs.
Ken Chambers, Mrs. Chas. Mat-
hers, Mrs. Alex McTavish, Mrs.
Wendell Stamper, Miss Rose-
mary Schmidt and Miss Gail
Barbour. Misses Barbara
Chambers, Louise Stamper and
Mary Edith Garniss were
commentators.
The project "Sleepwear" was
demonstrated by fashion shows
and exhibits. P rovinc ial and
County certificates and pins were
presented.
WI celebrates
• anniversary
The. 75th Anniversary of the
Women's Institute was celebrated
in Bluevale Hall, June 10 by a
dessert euchre. There was a
good attendance as old members
returned and visitors of
neighbouring branches attended.
The hall was decorated with
flowers of the W.I. colors of
purple and gold.
After a dessert luncheon Mrs.
Mel Craig, Bluevale president,
gave a short synopsis of Blue-
vale W.I. She then presented
past presidents and secretaries
each with a corsage.
Special tribute was paid to
Mrs. Aitken for the work she
has done for the W.I.
The ladies enjoyed an after-
noon of euchre and friendly "get-
together".
