considers Stratford bid

Open centennial headquarters
With less than three weeks
remaining before the Brussels
Centennial celebrations get under
way, Hugh Pearson's Centennial
Committee had a busy meeting
Monday evening completing last
The Centennial Headquarters,
located in the former Legion
building on the MainStreet busin-
ess area, will be a hive of activity
during the celebrations. It will
be the place of registration and
also a haven for the weary to
rest, with washrooms for their
convenience. You will be able
to obtain tea and coffee which
will be served by members of
the Majestic Women's Institute
and the Centennial Committee.
Souvenirs of the Centennial are
now on sale there, hats, pens,
ashtrays, plates, Centennial pro-
gram folders with activities
listed and a map showing the
locations where such activities
take place. Copies of the
special Centennial issue of The
Brussels Post, with a host of
interesting items, historical
sketches, pictures and numerous
greetings to the Village on this
historical occasion, will also be
available.

Seating capacity for Centen-
nial happenings at the Agricul-
tural grounds and at Victoria
Park have been increased. At
the Agricultural grounds new
bleachers, with eight sections,.
capable of seating 400 people

recently opened Centennial head-
quarters.
Wayne Brown from C.K.N.X.
said the station would broadcast
live from -Brussels from 10 to
12 in the morning and from 2 to
4 in the afternoon on Saturday,
July 1st.
A number of the committee
will be interviewed by Crawford
Douglas on TV and several other
committee members will appear
on the Annalilyer. program.
It was agreed that beards will
be judged at the school concert
on Thursday night at 8:30.
The committees responsible
reported that sports, horse rac-
ing, rodeo, and decorating are
well under way. Citizens. were
asked to co-operate by erecting
Xmas lights on their homes.
Makes grant
to Brussels
Morris Township Council met
June 5 with all members present
and Reeve wrn. Elstonpresiding.
Motions adopted included:
- that $50 be given to Brussels
Centennial.Parade Committee.
- that we endorse resolution
from Norfolk„ County concerning
Municipal Drainage Maintenance
Subsidy
- that we pay membership to
Huron County Road Superinten-
dents' Association
• that Thos Miller look after
repairs to the Russell Munic-
ipal Drain
- that we give Brussels Agri-
cultural Society a• grant of $100
for centennial purposes
Adcounts approved for pay-
ment included RoadS $10,561.96
and General $55,184.14 for a
total of $66,346.10.
Rev. Carl Keane of St.
Joseph's parish in Stratford was
present at the meeting of the
Huron-Perth County Roman Ca-
tholic Separate School Board
Monday night with a proposal that
the board move its administrative
office from Seaforth to
St. Joseph's convent, 82 Huron
Street, Stratford, which will be-
come vacant at the end of this
month when the Loretta Sisters
vacate the building.
A special request was made
by chairman James Morris of
Stratford to permit Father Keane
to make his proposal to the board
in view of the fact it was not on
the agenda: He also asked that a
decision be made on the proposal
as well.
A motion by Trustee Vincent
Young of Goderich was made to
permit Father Keane to speak,
but Mr. Young said his motion
did not guarantee an immediate
decision as this would be impos-
sible to do prior to hearing the
proposal. This motion was
seconded by Trustee F.J.Vere
of Stratford and a majority vote
allowed Father Keane to speak.
In speaking of the Loretto
convent Father Keane said it was
a building to satisfy the
board's needs, only ten years
old and in peak condition, with
the chapel more than adequate
as a board room and with plenty
of rooms for private offices for

Grey awards
contract
Grey council at its June meet-
ing accepted the tender of Sea-
forth Drainage and Construc-
tion Ltd., of Seaforth for the
construction of the Pollar Muni-
cipal Drain, Branch No. 3.
The tender price was $1,970.00.
In other business council
- gave a grant of $50 to the
Brussels Centennial Committee.
- paid the membership fee of

The next meeting of the com-
mittee was set for next Monday,
June 19th in the Centennial Head-
quarters.

After well over half a century of service the large newspaper press at the Brussels Post is
being dismantled. The press has not been in use since the publication of the Post at a central
