District Credit Union held their annual meeting at which.
Ross Smith and Peter Chandler were named directors
for three Years; Ross Anderson was, re-elected to the
Credit Committee and Charles Procter to the Supervisory
Committee. Following the director's, meeting, Gilbert
Beecoft was named president and Archie Purdon, vice-
president; Peter Chandler as secretary and George Michie
Manager. — Employees and council members and, their
wives met in the Belgrave Community roams Saturday
night to honor Lorne Campbell for his sixteen years of
service in the Belgrave Co-Op. Following the social,
Murray Lougheed and James Hodgins presented Mr. Camp-
bell with a cuckoo clock and a lawn chair. Mr.Campbell
has accepted a position with the Department of Lands and
Forests office south of Wingham.
Zurich Citizens News reports five new members were
inducted recently into the Zurich Cham,ber Of Commerce.
The new members, who were officially inducted by past
presidents Albert J. Kalbfleisch and Gerald Gingerich
were Allan. Brokenshire, Tony Bedard, Phil Overholt,
John Paul. Rau and Jack Hamilton. - - A special "Night
of Appreciation" for a life-long resident of this com-
munity, Albert. J. Kalbfleisch, has been arranged by the
Zurich and District Chamber of Commerce for Friday,
February 25th. Guest speaker will be Huron County
Judge R. S. Hetherington. - — Bruce Heath, director
of the Huron County Children's Aid Society was the guest
speaker at the February meeting of the St. Boniface CWL,
Zurich. Slides were shown entitled, "Wherever there
are children", and went on to explain the work of the
Society stressing the fact that more foster homes were
needed, primarily for older children.
Marria.nne Frayne, 13, a Grade 8 pupil at St.Joseph's
Separate School at Kingsbridge, won the Huron County
Oral Communications Festival competition at Clinton Public
School Friday afternoon according to the Lucknow Sen-
tinel. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Frayne
of Ashfield Township. - - Jim West of Ashfield shot a
wolf last week. - - - Five snowmobile accidents were among
those which were attended to this week at the emergency
ward of Wingham Hospital. - - - Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wil-
kens lost all their possessions, including wedding gifts, in
the fire at Listowel on Saturday.
The Mitchell Advocate reports that Ray Humphrey has
been appointed Southern Ontari o sales supervisor for
the United Co-operatives of Ontario, according to an
announcement made by Bill Deyell, Southern Region
Manager. Mr. Humphrey, 28, will be working out of
London. - - - Monkton Lions Club at their supper meet-
ing voted to donate $3,000 to the Monkton Community
Centre for improvements to the. Arena. Mr. Leonard
Prouse, principal of Upper Thames Elementary School,
was the guest speaker. - - - Jim Clarke

Sebringville, was engaged Monday evening at a special
meeting of town council, as town foreman. There were
14 applications.
The Goderich Signal-Star reports that 16 of the 17
snowmobile contestants in the “Marathon 99" finished
the full three circuits of the 33 mile route and raised
about $1,600 for Goderich Kinsmen Club's Cystic Fi-
brosis campaign. - - - The Goderich District Collegiate
institute gymnasium was the scene of the Huron-Perth
Conference wrestling championships, Friday. Ten schools
took part in the meet with the strong South Huron team
from Exeter emerging as decisive winners for the third
straight year.
Brenda Parkinson, according to the Exeter Times-
Advocate was named Kirkton's Winter Carnival Queen.
Nine other girls vied for the honor. Lynda Marshall was
runner-up. - - - The Murdy Funeral Home in Lucan will
mark 100 years in business this month. The founder of
the funeral business, John Murdy, came to Lucan in 1872.
Upon his death in 1915, his son Clifton, who was a star
performer with the Lucan Irish baseball team, took over
the business. The present owner is Jack Murdy, who
joined the business in 1933. The fourth generation of
the Murdy family is Michael Murdy, who is employed
with the A. Millard George Funeral Home in London and
assists his father on occasions.
The Wingham Advance-Times reports that four 50-
year members of the Catholic women's League of
Sacred Heart Church, Wingham

took part in marking the
50th anniversary of the league here. They were Mrs. Joe
Wilson, Mrs. Sara Anstett, Miss Annie McKinnon and
Mrs. John Moir. Mrs. Lawrence Howard of London, was
guest speaker at the CWL Anniversary and banquet held
at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Monday night.

Presbyterian Church on. Sunday
because of road conditions.
Mr. and Mrs, Wes McEachern
quietly celebrated their fifty-
fourth wedding anniversary at,
their home on Saturday, Feb.19
Mr. and Mrs. McEachern are
both quite active around their
home:
Miss Jane Gortley, Guelph
University student, spent the
weekend with Mr, and Mrs. Mel-
vin Becker.
Cranbrook II 4-H club met at
the home of Mrs. Frank Work-
man. The meeting was opened
with the 4-H Pledge and roll call
, was answered with information
for the green information sheet.
Officers elected were: presi-
dent, Linda Knight; Press Re-
porter and SecretallY Anna Lee
Stevenson. It was decided to
hold all meetings at the home of
Mrs. Workman. The other lead-
er is Mrs. Jack Conley. Litera-
ture was discussed along with
record books, fabrics and patt-
erns.
A second meeting was held
on Saturday.
The name chosen was "The
Cranbrook II Nifty Stitchers."
Each girl is to bring a sketch of
a cover she would like. The next
meeting will be held on Saturday,
February 26. Getting ready to
cut out the pattern and putting the
pattern pieces on the fabric were
discussed. The girls pinned the
pattern on the fabric and then
cut it out. Those who'had altera-
tions were assisted by the lead-
ers.
BRUSSELS 4-H CLUB
The Brussels 4-H Club met
February 14 at the home of the
leader, Mrs. Bob Richmond. The
club consists of eleven members
who are as follows, Nancy
Adams; Brenda Albrecht,Doro-
thy Boneschansker, Annette
Boneschansker, Karen Heming-
way, Joan Heuther, Joyce Ire-
land, Jane McDonald, Colleen
Raymond, Beth Valiance and Julie
Vandenberg, and Mrs. Richmond
is assisted by Mrs. Dave
Wheeler.
The meeting was opened with
4-H Pledge and the election of
officers are: President, Dorothy
Boneschansker, Vice-President,
Colleen Raymond; Secretary and
Press Reporter, any chosen girl.
The discussion produced facts
about suitable materials, pat-
terns and requirements of mem-
bers from the leader. Mrs.
Wheeler demonstrated the proper
way to take measurements, and
how to equip a sewing box. The
meeting continued with questions
from the members.
