BY HELEN ALLEN
HE LOVES SPORTS
Eric is 10, a sturdy, healthy boy with lovely dark eyes,
brown hair and medium complexion. His background is
Irish and French and his language is English.
Eric is a co-operative boy who tries hard to please. He
gets on well with children, especially younger than himself
and iS friendly with adults. He Is proud of his achievements
and treasures any praise that comes his way.
A sports-minded boy, Eric likes vigorous outdoor activ-
ities. ^lie swims all summer in a lake near his foster home
and now spends most of his playtime skating or playing hockey
on the same lake. He's also keen on baseball. Hockey
games on TV are his favorite programs and he likes to
make little bets on the outcome. Not with money, though.
Eric is very thrifty about his savirts.
Eric is not academically minded, but he tries hard and
is doing well in Junior Opportunity Class. He needs a home
where he will receive much love and reassurance, where the
father will share his interest in sports and where intellectual
achievements are not a major concern. To inquire about
adopting Eric, please write to Today's Child, Box 888, Station
K, Toronto. For general adoption Information ask your

Announce
Small Farms
Program
Agriculture Minister H. A.
(Bud) Olson has announced that
the federal government is pre-
pared to proceed to implement a
Small Farms Development Pro-
gram on a national basis.
This announcement followed
an all-day federal-provincial
conference of Minieters of
Agriculture.
The national program will
include a farm listing service,
a land transfer program, assis-
tance to farmers who choose to
leave agriculture and special
credit facilities to promote the
development of profitable family
farms.
"We are hopeful that the pro-
vinces would see lit to join us
in a federal provincial program,
but agreement has not been pos-
sible to attain despite a year of
negotiations and meetings," Mr.
Olson said.
"Rather than waiting five
years to reach agreement on an
expanded program, we' plan
to take the first step now because
we believe the problem is an
urgent one requiring prompt
action," Mr. Olson said.
"We have offered to meet
with the provinces on an indi-
vidual basis to negotiate imple-
mentation of expanded programs
which will take into account the
concerns of each province," Mr.
Olson said.
