Majestic
WI Meets
The Majestic W.I. meeting
on Citizenship, convened by Mrs.
Adrian 'McTaggart and Miss
Laura Lucas was held in the
Brussels library on. Thursday
January 13 at 2 o'clock. Mrs.
Leona Armstrong, president,
welcomed the members and
guests who had turned out in
spite of the inclement weather
and read them some worthwhile
New Year's messages. Mrs. Alex
Steiss, assistant secretary-
, treasurer, helped look after the
business part of the meeting.
Further plans re the centennial
quilt were discussed and those
wishing to attend the '75th anni-
versary of the W.I. at the Royal
York, Toronto were asked to
get their names in. Mrs. Bob
Richmond and Mrs. Dave Wheel-
er are to be the leaders of the
Girls Club course on Sleepwear.
Mrs. Adrian McTaggart took
charge of the meeting, asking
for the roll call "Name your
choice of a citizen of the hist-
ory of Brussels and why". An
interesting paper on the history of
Brussels was given by Mrs. Amy
Speir, Many antique articles
dating back many years and
which were brought by the mem•-
bers were on display. There
were shawls, rings, mourning
brooches, bed pan, pictures, old
Brussels Post (1909), tablecloth,
jewel case, three coal oil lamps
(burning) lent their aroma to
the setting. Many of the articles
had belonged to great grand-
mothers of members. Mrs. Harry
Bolger had two antique chairs
(1864) on display depicting before
and after restoration by her hus-
band and herself.
The Motto "The Brussels we
enjoy was not hr ought to nation-
hood by timid citizens" was
given by Miss Laura Lucas. A
good citizen should be personally
responsible - sociably respon-
sible politically responsible and
a responsible world wide cit-
izen.
Those who give most, enjoy
most. Mrs. Phyllis Mitchell of
Walton delighted her audience
with old time• violin selections
and also played for the waltz
quadrille in which Eleanor Hem-
ingway, Wilma Hemingway,
Peggy Cudmore, Leona Arm-
strong, Leona Connelly, Marie
McTaggart, Elsie Shaw and Ruby
Steiss took part. Mrs. Lulu Kerr
accompanied them on the piano.
Miss Laura Lucas condcuted
a contest "The drawing of an
old time article." Lunch was
served by Mrs. Steiss, Mrs.
Shaw and Mrs. Cudrnore.
