The 8th and 16th Unit of Duff's
United QhUrch, Walton held their
January meeting at the home of
Mrs. Jim. Smith, Wednesday
afternoon January 12th.
Mrs, Don McDonald opened
the meeting with prayer and
liBlest be the tie that binds"
was sung. The scripture Psalm
100 was read by Mrs. D, Mc-
Donald. The Topic, 4"rhe Lord's
Prayer" was taken by Mrs. Doug
Fraser and the Lord's Prayer
was repeated in unison, followed
by Mrs, Fraser reading an art-
icle from the Observer on con-
ditions in Northern Ireland. The
devotional part of the meeting
closed with All the way my
Saviour leads me." The roll
call was answered by 9 mem-
bers. The annual congregational
meeting is next Monday with a
pot luck supper. The unit and
executive meeting is to be Feb-
ruary 2nd, at the home of Mrs.
Doug Fraser, with Mrs. Jim
Smith assisting with lunch.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Rae Huether, Mrs. Jim McDon-
ald and the hostess.

The Me,Killop Unit of the
U.C.W. meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Charles Mc-
Cutcheon on January 12 with 14
members present.
Mrs. George Love Sr. was in
charge of devotions opening the
meeting with a New Years read-
ing. The scripture was taken
from Snd Peter, Chapter 3,
verses 8 - 14 and read by Mrs.
Jack Bosman. "Standing at the
Portal" was sung. Mrs. J.
Bosman gave the meditations on
New Years. Mrs. G. Love closed
with a "New Year's Wish"
prayer.
Mrs. W. J. Leerning gave as
her topic, "A New Year's Mes-
sage."
Mrs. John Burch, the new
president, presided for the busin-
ess, thanking everyone who had
helped with the devotions. Mrs.
Burch opened this part of the
meeting with "An Ancient
Prayer". The roll call was
answered by a "Thought for New
Years".
Mrs. Norman Schade gave
the treasurer's report. Thank
you notes were read from those
receiving boxes at Christmas
and from some of the members
who had been in hospital. Collec-
tion was taken by Mrs. N. Schade
and dedicated by Mrs. Campbell
Wey.
'Mrs. Stewart McCall and Mrs.
Norman Schade assisted the
hostess in serving lunch.
UNIT HOLDS FIRST MEETING
OF YEAR
The 17th and Boundary Unit
met at the home of Mrs. Jan
Van Vliet Sr. Wednesday after-
noon January 12, with 10 mem-
bers and one visitor present.
Mrs. Harold Smalldon Opened
the devotional period with "The
Thought for the Day", followed by
prayer. ,Hymn 571, "Standing
at the Portal." was sung. Mrs.
Smalldon read the scripture from.
Deuteronomy, Chapter 8, verses
1 - 16 followed with an article .
on the New Year and a poem, ;
Mrs. George Williamson ,
chose as her topic "It's in our
power to direct each day" dosing
with prayer. "0 God Our Help in
Ages Past" was sung.
Mrs. Harvey Craig was in
charge of the blisiness. The
Minutes were read by Mrs. Ross
Bennett as the secretary, Mrs.
J. BoS, was unable to be present
due to sickness. Mrs. Cliff
Ritchie gave the treasurer's re-
port. The annual. meeting Istobe
held at the church on January 24
at 7 P.M. It was decided to
have the annual bazaar arid tea
on October 18. Mrs. Martin
Saari read an article about Mis-
sion work in Zambia, Africa.
Lunch was served by Mrs,
H. Smalldon, Mrs, G. Will am.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dunk,
chinchilla ranch enthusiasts of
this village, have purchased
twenty chinchillas to add to their
present stock and had to be
careful while transporting them
by truck from Wingham to avoid
the possibility of them getting a
chill in the frosty weather.
