News of Huronview The Huronview Orchestra with Mtss Della Peart, Mrs. Mary Taylor and Norman Speir provided the music for Monday afternoons' program. The Rythm band, which is being organized and has five members, joined ihe orchestra for two numbers. The residents ware entertained on Family Night with a program arranged by Gordon iturn]ey. Mrs. James introduced the numbers and led the singing with musical selections by Tom Fortner on guitar and Gordon Rumbley on guitar and mouth organ. A Bobbie Burns program is being planned for the last week of January with Jim Laurie of Blyth in charge. Plans have been made to form an Over 90 Club and it is hoped, if we have a sponsoring organization, to start meeting early in the New Year. ..,..r 4,r Correspondent Mrs. M. Engel Mrs. Clem Steiner was hostess for the January meeting of the Cranbrook W.I. Mrs.Milton Fraser gave two poems and the roll call was "What I like to collect". The topic "Items of Historical Interest" was given by Mrs. Melvin Becker and Mrs. Gordon Engel. There was a contest "Did you know?" dating from 1917 to the present. The topic was based on information partly from the Tweedsmuir Book and also a map compiled by George Wesenberg. One of these maps may be seen in the Library in Becker's store. Lunch com- mittee was Mrs. Goldwin Knight and Mrs. Clare Veitch. made for two special meetings to be held in the Church: Current events were read by Mrs.Gordon, Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Veitch. Mtss Alice J. Forrest recorded cards and visits. Mrs. John Schnock and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler assis- ted the hostess with serving lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Becker visited in Roseville area with Mr. and Mrs. Russel Stoltz. During the holidays Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Purdy and Susan had as guests Mr. and Mrs.Keith Purdy and Kathy, Cookstown, and Mr. and Mrs. John Bouch and Danny, Stayner. Gerald Johnaon, a friend of the. faMily. The room was decorated with arches of evergreen and white flowers. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of blue sheen Velvet with white lace at wrists and neckline and carried white mums and carnations. Her headpiece was of loops of white Velvet. Shirley Smith of London was bridesmaid in .4 floor-length gown of mint green, swiss dot muslin. Ken t MacDonald was best man. After the ceremony a buffet supper was served in the dining room which was also decorated with white flowers, greenery, candles and Christmas decorat- ions. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rogers and sons, to our community. They have moved from Vancouver to their farm recently purchased from Jim Knight. Mrs. Shireman, Bright, visited over the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Cameron and family spent New years in Mitchell with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Paris, Will Perrie of the University of Toronto was home for the holidays. The January meeting of the Afternoon Group of the W.M,S. was held at the home of Mrs. Calvin Cameron with an atten- dance of ten members. Mrs. Wilfred Strickler as leader , opened the meeting with a reading and a hymn. The Lord's Prayer and Scripture reading were in unison, followed by the meditation. Mrs. Mac Engel read an article by Padre W, A. Young entitled ,,a you ask me, the future is now". Mrs. Clare Veitch led in prayer. Mrs. Lylle Gordon was in charge of the New year's topic and read "Baby 1972" by Art Buchwald and from the Glad Tidings, ,,A New Year, A New Day, a New Challenge", closing with a prayer. Mrs. Earl Dunn read "A Lovely Light," and presided for' the business. She read 1,an ancient prayer". Mrs.Stanley Fischer read the minutes and also announced the annual meet- ing being held in Knox Church, Stratford, on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The treasurer, MrS. John A. Perrie gave the financial report of 1971, which showed an increase over the preceding year. The roll call was a NeW Years verse.
