Achilles, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Roily Achilles, RR 3, Walton was guest of honor at a bridal shower at Duff's United Church on Tues- day evening January 4th. Corsages were pinned on Ann, her mother Mrs. Achilles, and the groom's mother, Mrs. Frank Sills, Seaforth when entering the Sunday School room. Mrs. Emmerson Mitchell was mistress of ceremonies for the evening's entertainment when she welcomed everyone who came to Ann's shower. Mrs. Ian Wil- bee and Carol Wilbee conducted e , a contest "Name the Towns". Misses Cathy McGavin and. Jeanne McDonald sang two solos "Let the Sun Shine In" and "A little white Duck", accompanied by Mrs. Neil MoGavin at the piano. Miss Gail Traviss con- tributed a solo "Honey" assisted by her mother, Mrs. Herb Tray- iss joining in with the chorus and playing the piano. Mrs. Neil McGavin did a comedy act, fol- lowed by Doug and Neil Mit- chell singing a duet "Raindrops are Falling" with Mrs. Ian Wil- bee accompanying at the piano. Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. McGavin sang a song they composed for Ann. Ann, her mother and Mrs. Sill's were now called to the front to be seated on decorated chairs with an overhead decor- ated basket of artificial flowers and balloons, and yellow and white streamers attached to the chairs. Mrs. wm„ Humphries read an address with Best Wishes from the friends, neighbors and relatives present. The gifts were carried in by girl friends. Ann thanked everyone graciously for all the lovely gifts. Everyone joined in in singing "For she's a jolly good fellow". Several ladies of the Walton Unit served lunch and a social half hour was enjoyed. Correspondent Mrs. Allan. McCall ,Several young people frpm the community were among the Junior Farmer'e Choir, under the leadership of Rev, D.Doeken that partieipated in the singing at Ontario Place, Toronto. 1VIcKILLOP UNIT MEETS The December meeting of the McKillop Unit was held at the home of Mrs, Glen McNichol. A noon meal preeeded the meet- ing when the losers of the copper cgntest entertained the winners. Christmas gifts, were given out. Mrs. Stewart. McCall presided for the devotions opening with the hymn "0 Little Town of Beth- lehem" with Mrs. Laverne God- kin as pianist. Mrs. Keith Rock read the scripture lesson from. Luke 2:8-20 followed by the med- itation, "Christmas overshad- ows petty things" by Mrs. S. McCall. Prayer was given by Mrs. Merton Hackwell. Hymn "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" was sung. Mrs, Neil McGavin chose as her Topic the "Trad- itions and symbols of Christmas of all lands". The collection was received and dedicated by Mrs. S. McCall. Hymn "Silent Night" was sung, followed with the clos- ing benediction on Christmas by Mrs. S. McCall. Mrs. Campbell Wey was in charge of the business, opening with a few lines from Phillip Brooks. Minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. W.J. Leem- ing, also a Thank you card, Roll call was taken with 19 members and 4 visitors present. Treas- urer and Visiting and Friend- Ship reports were given. Bus- iness was discussed and sug- gestions given for the coming year programs. Mrs. C, Wey closed the meeting with Henry Van Dyke's Christmas Prayer. UCW Meets The first meeting of the New Year was held in the basement of Duff's United Church on Wednes- day afternoon January 5th with 21 ladies present. Mrs. Don McDonald was in charge for the 8th and 16th Unit. Hymn 571, "Standing at the Portal" was sung. Mrs. Mar- tin Bean was pianist. Mrs. Mc- Donald gave the meditation, New Year's priceless gift, followed by prayer. Hymn 764 from the Hymnary was read in unison. Mrs. Jim Smith read a poem, "A New Year's Wish"/. Mrs. Walter Bewley intro- duced the film that was shown entitled "Operation Friendship" with introductory notes. Ennis, Steven, Leanne and Sherri of Whitby, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Clark and baby son of London are spend- ing a few days of their three weeks holidays at the home of his parents, Mr, and Mrs. JIM Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mills spent a few days holidays with Mr. and Mrs, Murray Mills, Scott, Cathy and David of Brantford and also at the home of Drs. Jean and Gerd Westermann of Burlington. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mc- Gavin, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dins- more, Bruce, Peter and Steven of Brampton and Mr. and Mrs. John McGavin and family were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Neil McGavin and family. Gary Bennett, London and Miss Dianne Meehan, Kitchener visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bennett and Joan. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lundy of Hamilton spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Mc- Call and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stevenson. Mr. and Mrs. John Currie and girls, Donald Currie of Brampton and Barry Currie of London were Saturday even- ing guests at the same home. Cathy McGavin is a patient in Clinton Hospital, following an accident with a snowmobile, when she fractured her nose and re- quired several stitches. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Achilles and Debbie of Fergus spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles and Ann. Rev. and Mrs. Derwyn Docken and Kristen have been spending a few weeks at their cottage near Meaford, while Mr. Docken is on leave of absence from his church duties for his study per- iod.
