McCuteheon, Karen and Wayne, and Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall spent, a recent weekend touring Northern Ont- ario, through Algonquin Park to Eganville where they saw the Bonnechere Caves, Ontario's Nat- ural !Wonder in the beautiful B'onnechere Valley. Mr. and Mrs. John Currie and Donald Currie of Brampton visit- ed on Saturday at the home of Mr. and. C. J. Pegelow is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital after suffering another heart' attack. Mrs. Pegelow is at present in the Brookhaven Nursing Home;. Avingham. • Miss Florence MeNaughton, formerly of BrusSels, now a resi- dent of. I-Turonview, is in. Victoria Hospital, London, after suffering a broken hip in a fall, . • Mrs. R. S. Hamilton haS as her guest her sister, Mrs. J. A. Smith of Edmonton.' Also on. a visit from the west is Miss R. M. Smith of Vancouver, a niece of the late Frank R. Smith, druggist. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jackin of Trowbridge were honored recently with a dinner at the Blue Barn, Listowel, on the occasion of their 30th 'wedding anniversary. Their family were present for this happy occasion. In 1941 he opened a general store and pro- duce business in Ethel which. he operated for eight years. After selling' the business in 1949 he farmed in Grey Township until the time of his death.He was also on the staff of the Brussels Sales barn for thirteen years. He was an elder of Ethel Presbyterian. Church and a. member of St. John s Lodge and Western. Star TOO', Brussels. and on the board of Ethel Cemetery and the Com- munity Hall Board. -His, wife' who survices, is the former Edna McWilliams of Mount Forest. They were married July 21.. 1944, Also surviving are five son s and one daughter, James of Toronto, Douglas, Ilensall, Scott of London and Dan, Steve, and Joan at home; two brothers, Ralph and Hugh, of Brussels, and four sisters Mrs. Ken (Margaret) Fife of Burlington, Mrs. 'George (Jessie) Joynt of Lucknow, Mrs. Jim (Edith) 'Nulty and Mrs. Jim (Florence) Gibson, both of Lon- doRilesting at the M. F. PARKER HONORED ON .HIS RETIREMENT' A large representation of the men of Brussels and community gathered at the New American Hotee on Tuesday evening, to pay tribute to C. F. Parker who retires from active service with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce on October 22nd. Mr. Parker has been manager of the local branch since March of 1960. After a hearty banquet, preced- ed by grace by Brussels Reeve J. L. AfcCutcheon, wa.s enjoyed, Bruce McCall, the genial master of ceremonies for this informal occasion, introduced the guest of honor. A program was presented by Jack Thymic!, with his violin, jokes, and such favourites as "Dangerous Dan McCI'ew", in -his familiar style; Clark Johnston contributed Scotch and Irish gongs, and Susan Langlois, step dances. Among those who spoke briefly and paid tribute to Mr. Parker, as bank manager and friend over hi s years here, were Reeve Mc- Cutcheon, Reeve Wm. Elston of Morris Township, 'Wm. Turnbull, on behalf of the Uunited Church, Henry Exel, president of the Brim- sels Lions Club, who said Mr. Parker as treasurer, kept the club solvent by warning them when funds were low, Cal Kranter, C. R. Dunbar with greeting from Grey Township, and Jack Bryans. Bruce McCall paid respect to 'the late Alex Pearson. At the conclusion of the pro- gram James Turnbull made the presentation of a typewriter to the guest of honor for which Mr. Parker expressed his gratitude and said that for the present he and his wife will remain in Brus- sels. Mr. Ray Hyde of Minden who succeed s Mr. Parker as manager of the local bank, was present and in speaking said he hoped to cri- i0Y the same pleasant association with the people of this com- munity, Mr. McCall extended thanks to Mrs. Baker and, her staff of girls for time excellent banquet served. Mrs. Baker replied.
