met in the church basement on
Wednesday evening- 21 memb-
ers present. Mrs. Win. Thamer
opened the worship period with
a reading. The scripture from
Samuel was taken by Mrs. Alex
Gulutzen Jr., followed by a com-
mentary and the meditation by
Mrs. Thamer. The hymns were ac-
companied by Mrs, Rae Huether
at, the piano.. Mrs. Don Achilles
gave the topic based on the study
of Africa. She said we study
Africa to celebrate with African
countries as they meet the chang-
es and challenges of , a nation
building into todays fast mov-
ing world.; to become aware of
some of the problems politic-
ally and in development which
confronts the new' government in
Africa as they try to meet the
rising expectations ' of their
people so study the situation in
white dominated southern Africa
so that knowing the facts you can
respond to the area of need.: to
see how the churches are involved
in helping men to live a fuller
life. The whole church with the
whole 'G'ospel fer the whole man
and the whole world. Africa is
made up of many Africas stretch-
ing from Cairo to Capetown, 5000
miles auu another 5000 miles
from the Indian Ocean to the
Atlantic Ocean. There are about
200 languages spoken by its 300
niillioti people. You may say the
African jigsaw is complicated.
Africa has great treasures to
Share with the world. Its prob-
lems are our problems in the new
history. The church is there, root.
ed in Christ and prowl of its
world-wide ecumenical affiliation.
Christ does not come to the Afri-
can people from outside but is ful-
ly with them as He is with people
everywhere, solidarity in mission.
That's Why AfriCa, she concluded,
Mrs. Achilles, assisted by MrS.
Docken presented a film. "Drimi-
beat to Dialogue", showing bet-
ter communications leading to a
better understanding, Mrs, Emer-
son Mitchell presided over the
business portion and opened with
a thank-you to everyone who had
taken part in the devotions. Min-
utes of the last meeting were read
by the secretary, Mrs. W. C.
Hackw ell. ShoWer thank-yOu
notes were read from Mrs. Alan
Carter, the former Karen Coutts
and from Mrs. Dennis Wentlitind,
the former Betty Roe. A discus-
sion of further showers and cater-
ing followed. There will be "Open
House". the manse in October.
A committee will make plans for
the FoWl Simper in November,
Take out orders will Only be to
sick or shikOns. Mrs. E. Michell
Closed the meeting with Prayer.
The 'hostesses, MrS. W, C, Hack,
well, MrS. Allan Searle and Mrs.
HOWard llegkwell served lunCh
