EARL BOWES
Earl :Bowes Of Ethel died in the
Lis tdwel Memorial Hospital on
Wednesday, June 2nd, at the age
of 63.
He was born in Grey Township
where ho lived all his life. He was
a on of the late Mr. and Mr's.
Thomas BoWes, and Married the
forMer Merle Wilson of Ethel in
October, 1936.
Surviving besides his wife are,
one daughter, Mrs. diaries
(Marilyn) Guy of Ethel; two Sens,
Carman of Elliott Lake and
Thomas at home; six grandchild-
ren; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle
Shaw of Brigden.
Mr. Bowes was a Member of
Ethel Presbyterian Church. He
was Grey Township road SUper-
intendent for 16 Pyears.
The funeral service was held
from the Peebles funeral home,
Atwood, on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Rev. D. W. Clarke, minister of
Ethel and Atwood Presbyterian
Church officiated.
Burial was in Elma. Centre
cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sanley Alex-
ander, Melvin Carnochan, Harry
Gillis, George Bray, Bruce Speir-
an and Lloyd Vogan.
Flowers were carried by Ster-
ling Hood, Lloyd .Tacklin, Bruce
:Wilson, Larry Wilson. Verne Guy

TORNADO MISSES
BRUSSELS AREA
A Tornado, with 70 mile art.
hour winds, roared across Lake
Huron Monday evening, bringing
heavy rain and hail, in some
areas hail said to be the size of
aeff halls, It left what was esti-
mated to be a hundred thousand
dollar path of destruction in its
wake Where it swooped down
leaving flattened barns, damaged
hprses, vehicles, a tangle of
hydro and telephone wires, Up-
rooted trees and trees snapped
off like match sticks.
The immediate Brussels vicin-
ity escaped any serious damage.
East of here in Grey and Elma
townnios at least two barns were
demolished and others severely
damaged..
On 'the farm of Elston sparan,
g•i‘i 3, Brussels, his main barn', was
entirely destroyed by the twister,
Mr. Speiran estimated his loss at
$50,000. The :30 registered Holstein
cows were outside when the storm
hit. Mr. Speiran took his family
to the basement when he saw the
harn roof moving up and down,
Windows of the house were
smashed.
The roof of the barn of Harvey
Godboit, Con. 10, Grey Township,
ava.a blown. off and the' building
severely damaged.
In OM a, township barns were
f.latt cued and others severely
damaged. Tr'ees were uprooted.
Fortunately nd injuries have
been reported,
TWO BARNS AND
PIGS LOST IN FIRE
Tw o barns on the farm of Mike
Terpstra. on the County Road,
Concession 10, Grey Township,
were completely 'destroyed in a
fire that swept through both
buildings in spite of the efforts. Of
two fire departments. 215 pigs
were lost in the blaze.
Grey fire department answered
the call, Brussels firemen went
to the aeene of rho fire when
summoned in an attempt to save
one of the barns but the intense
heat of the steel roof frustrated
their efforts to check the flames.
