MELVILIA W. M. S.
TheWoinen's -Missionary Society
of Melville Church met in the
church parlour on Friday after-
noon, with the president, Mrs.
.Gibson convening the meeting.
A Spring time poem was read by
Mrs. Gibson followed by prayer
and a hymn.
The devotional part of the
meeting was taken by Mrs. Muir,
who read the scripture about the
unjust steward, St. Luke 16: 1-9
and gave the meditation and Mrs.
Armstrong led in prayer.
Mrs. Speir gave the message
following the general theme "(let-
ting the Word around" basing her
topic on India, using a map of
India, with the different mission
stations marked. She emphasized
the fact that missions in the
foreign fields are changing. In
India, wrich is serviced by Ind-
ian ministers, teachers and evan-
gelists, while our missionaries
assist a.nd are still needed there,
only in a. different role. They must
still train the native ministers,
teachers, nurses to give the •gospel
to their own people in their own
tongue.
Mrs. Matheson was a delegatd
to the Synodical, which was held'
in Sarnia in April and gave a most
interesting report of that meet-
ing. One of the guest speakers at
the meeting was Mrs. Neal, Press
Secretary for the Synodical of
Hamilton and London. who visit-
ed India this year calling on our
missionaries on the Bhil and
Jhansi mission fields. She brougbt
home to us in a very definite way
the work our staff are doing to
bring the gospel to the people of
India.
The roll call was responded to,
by a Bible verse containing the
word "sacrifice". The offering
was received and dedicated. Ar-
ra,ngements were made concern-
ing the Presbyterial, which is to
Hymn 109 "Unto the Hills'
was sung and the Mizpah Bene-
diction pronounced.
