The Ontario Government is
pushing banks and mortgage com-
panies to put up money to build
15,000 'note honies as part of a
drive toprovide jobs this winter.
The Government itself is ready
to start on a backlog of public
works projects to• increase acti-
vity in the construction industry
according to Premier John
Robarts.
Lands end Forests Minister
Rene Brunelle announced this
week thar, all peuble Of -er Ii,i 3,e4rs
of age would not be required to
buy a. fishing licence. ,This was a
matter which the Opposition had
pressed for during the consider-
ation of the Esiiinates of Lands
and Forests. I'm sure this is
welcome news for all old age
peahen fishing enthusiasts.
Persistent rumours have been
circulating this week that Premier
John Robarts intends to step
down as leader of the Govern-
rnont. These rumours have been
making the rounds for the past
few months, hut this week they
intensi lied.
The Premier, • in response to
these news reports announcing
his retirement, told the Legisla-
ture that he has been giving the
matter serious consideration,
However, he stated• that when-
he was ready to retire, he would
make the announcement,
It is reported that the Premier
plans to step down shortly and
that a leadership convention Will':
be held in February, with an
EJection in the Spring or the
Fall.
This current session of the
Leislature prorogued' completing
L;Kork of this.. callendar year.,
The • new session Will likely
start in January or eary Febr-
uary, depending on whether a.
Conservative leadership con-
vention will be held at that time.
