"THE GOOD DRIVER'
Walter Chrysler was once asked
whether there was a single sug-
gestion he might make regarding
traffic safety. He replied, "Don"t
do Anything suddenly." The Ont-
ario Safety League says that this
may have been meant to apply
primarily to the designer, but it is
excellent advice for the driver too.

Here's a definition of driving,
quoted by' the Ontario Safety
League: "Driving• is an interim
activity tolerated by motorists
to bridge experiences itupertin-

More thin $.1 million has been
spent recently in the E. S. in re-
search to find how rear lighting
systems could be improved. One
suggestion under study has been
made frequently — that rear run-
ning lights should be green, or
some other color, to distinguish
them tram the red. of brakes,
Also etudied has been the sug-
gestion that there .should be a
third color,perba.ps amber, to in-
dicate "no pedal". However, says
the Ontario Motor, League, it baa
been found that drivers remove
their foot from the gas pedal
three times m ore often. than they
operate the brake, suggesting that
with a deceleration indicating
system the lights would be flash-
ing with annoying frequency.
