A home paper is the beat local adver-
tising medium. It enters and remains
in the home. All the members of the
fancily read it. Mothers and the heads
of households peruse it. It contents are
commented upon and live news and
striking advertisement announcements
are commented upou around the fancily
board. This is one reason why THE
SIGNAL is so valuable a medium for live
advertisers. Ir PAYS to advertise in a
well read local newspaper.
THE ALLAN LINE. -We draw the at-
tention of our readers to the advertise-
ment of the Allan Steamship Line, which
appears in another column. •The West-
ern agency is superintended by Mr. 11.

business, -to choose live local agents in the
principal towns aid cities. The Goder-
ich agency is represented by Mr. H. Arm-
strong, of the Montreal Telegraph Co.,
who will be planed to give full informa-
tion to intending imasengers.
THE BRVSSEL9 POST. -This live little
local paper entered ;its ninth year last
week. As a picker-upbf live local news
it takes its place with the "good ones"
of the county. We were present at its
birth -it was our "first-born;" last year
we married the sparkling jade to the
firm of Kerr & Auld, and our fondest
hope will ever be that she will prove a
"helpmeet" indeed to the gentlemen
who took her for "better or worser" on
the lel of August, 1880.
COLLISION. -On Saturday last, while
a buggy belonging to Mr. McLean was
eta ing on the Square, a wagon laden
with salt, driven by Mr. McKnight of

Knight says he was endeavoring to keep
from a buggy driven by a lady which
was crowding him on the other side, and
in so doing ran into Mr. McLean's buggy.
The wheels of the damaged buggy were
knocked askew, but the axle seemed to
be only bent, not broken.
Qrorvn.-Colborne had its revenge

ArezDE.rr.-On Thursday of last week
Mr. Geo. Swanson of Goderich, while re-
turning from Ashfield, was thrown from
a covered buggy, and had his shoulder
dislocated. At the place where the ac-

while a mud runs along side. There is a
drop of about a foot or eighteen inches,
and Mr. Swanson's horse was evidently
seeking the softer rued when tho buggy
tilted, throwing out the oocupants.
Fortunately MrSwanson had his son
along, who at once secured help and the
wants of the wayfarers were thus attend-

Mr. Hood, the street inspector, was en-

adjusting the pendulum let it run for
three weeks.The time from Toronto

clock was found to be keeping, good

to elapse, and last week Toronto time
was again taken. The result showed no
perceptible variation. Good for the
