Those of us who make our liv-
ing from the raising and caring
for farm animals have been sev-
erly criticized by the Ontario
Frainane Society for our support
or bills 73 and 74, We think it
should be pointed otit that farmers
more than any other groUp of
peorde are, intereStd in the hu-
mane treatillent of animals. Most
farmers are naturally humane to
to animals but. farmers also know
that neglect and cruelty to aninial8

In the 'minority or cases where
neglect and cruelty is observed
the p rob I OM can often he traced to
financial difficulties, mental health
problems or just 1110in luck 0f
managing' ability.
Under present legislation we be-
lieve the 14limanc Society can not,
or does not, deal efrectively With
this probleM in the rtital areas
where people generally know each
other.
There arc several. reasons why
this is so. First, the Society gen-
erally disregards the problem or
the people involved, who in Many
cases require help as much as the
animals. In fact through the Soc-
iety policy of wide publicity the
