CENTENNIAL CONCERT
OUTSTANDING. SUCCESS
A. program of music fOr Cate
ada's Centennial was presented
last Wednesday evening in. Mel-
ville Presbyterian Church by
pnpils of Margaret Thompson. A
large audience of interested par-
eats, relatives and peOple of the
community attended. The music
described the P,earity of our Land,
and Our CeIthre, being given in
soups, piano solos, duets and
trios.. Three pianos were provici-
el for the occasion, and the pro-
gram ended with solos front the
Pipe Organ of the Church.

FAREWELL GIFT
On Wednesday morning before
school closed, the kindergarten
had their closing party on the
lawn of the home of Mrs. Mathe-
son. The chitiren presented their
teacher with a pair of pretty
Centennial cups and saucers as al
farewell gift.

BRUSSELS TEACHING STAFF
HONORS RETIRING 'MEMBER
A pleasant evening was held at
the ,home of Mrs Idella Wilson,
when the teaching staff of Brus-
sels Public School, with their
husbands and wiles, met to honor
Mrs., Clark Matheson who is re-
tiring after teaching Kinder-
garten for several years. The
evening was spent playing cards
and a social hour after which a
lunch was served by the ladies.
Mrs. Matheson was presented
with a lovely purse for which
thanked the staff and did some
renainicing of her happy memor-
ies with the children atid staff.

medical-dental rentre which will
be furnished in his honor as a

The crowds came, the sun
*hone, and everyone seemed
imbued with the spirit of the
(!entennial and participated with
enthusiasm in the celebration of
(lanadit's 1001.b birthday. Brussels
Centennial "Come Home, Week"
was a rousing success, Former
residents returned from Halifax
and Vancouver and a multitude
of points between as well as from
various states of the ITS, for the
!eree day festivities.
FRIDAY
Things got underway with a
bang on 'Friday evening with
a 50 gun salute by the 21st Yield
Regiment RCA, Winghem. They
arrived with Felice escort and
the Brussels Legion Band. The
ball game between Brueefield
and Brussels was called off,
because of rain, in the third
inning with Brussels leading 8-3.
SATURDAY
The Parade
The residents of the community,
and their visitors, thronged intd
the streets of the village on Sat,
today, until a crowd estimated
at 5,000 lined the streets for the
monster parade at one o'clock.
Spectators occermied the, boule-
vards. lawns, and verandahs. from
the Agricultural park, where the
parade started, to Victoria park.
In the two. main blocks they were
four deep on both sides of the
street. to watch a parade of 120
Pntries, that had everything,
clowns. bicycle built for two,
covered wagons, steam engine,
motorized Canada birthday cake.

and more horses. with riders,
hitched to a multitude of various
vehicles. The floats were benuti-
fel, historic, rind comic. The par-
ade took 1 hours to pass a,

Soccer Game
The soccer game Saturday
night was pleasing to the Many
fans of the sport who saw the
regular league game between the
London German Team and Goder-
!ch. London won 3 - 0.
Dances in the Legion Hall, the
Arena, and a street dance; with a
fireworks display, concluded the
Saturday festivities.
SUNDAY
Local churches were crowded
Sunday morning with many
former members returning to
worship with the congregations.
Lilt, eh and visiting with old
friends followed the services.
Commnity Service
About 900 persons gathered
at Victoria Park Sunday night
for a community service that
