our townsman, S. Hannah, Esq., left on
Thursday for the same destination. He
took with him a span of fine horses and
other farming appurtenances, and in-
tends engaging as a tiller of the soil in

we, for I feel that I atm nut worth such
an address. I must say that I never for
one moment entertained the idea that

Dungannon for the past eighteen years,

an angry word with any of My neigh-
bors, and I do not flatter when I say that

love the church of my choice, as should

small indeed, for my ability is very limit-

lot 19, con. 6, is well known as a raiser

twelve months of 46 young pigs. Mr.
Cox thinks that record hard to beat;
and so do we.
SHORT HORN BCLL. — Messrs. J. M. &
H. Cook, of the 7th con., Goderich
Township, have purchased a splendid
shorthorn bull from Mr. G. Thomson, of
Alton, Co. of Peel. We may look for
an improvement in the cattle in this
section, if "Crown Prince" is patron-
ized by our local breeders. Mr. H.
Cook has also purchased a fine brood
mare, by Mr. Joseph Fisher's "Simon
Pure," from Mr. Nicholas Stanley, for
$150. The Meters. Cook are amongst
our most enterprising stock breeders,
and we trust their energy will befittingly
rewarded.
The regular quarterly examination of
the school was held on Friday, 26th
March. The teacher, Mr. Higgins con -
du -...ted the examination, and was assisted
by Miss Hamilton of No. 8, and W. S.
Lawrence of the Union, Goderich Town -
.h.• , and the result showed a thorough
knowledge of the different subjects us-
ually taught in our public schools. It
was very well attended by the parents
and guardians of the children whish

by the pupils, led by their leacher,
which were rendered in good style.
The History, Geography and Arith-
metic deserve particular notice. The His-
tory and Geography classes were exam-
ined by their teacher and ell present
could not fail to be delighted with the
answers given by the pupils and also
with the scanners, in which they seer.

Cots Kneen. —A fine young two-year-
old colt belonging to Mr. Torn. Simpson,
of the 3rd con. came to an untimely end
one day last week. It seems the animal
was feeding on the threshing door, and
a steer came in to participate. The colt
rushed at the intruder to bite, when the
latter ducked its head and ripped with
its horns the foreshoulder of the former.
The colt then turned its rear to kick,
when the steer again ducked and with
its horns literally disenikoweled its assail-
ant, wkieh died shortly after.

one day last week cut down an elm tree
whice measured 36 inches in diameter in

Mrs. Forrester, who was shot by her
husband at Fergus on Friday last, in the
head, still lies in a very low condition.
The bullet is not yet extracted, and
grave fears are entertained as to her re-
covery.

Mr. Hunter, of the Brantford Blind

Inspector of Insurance, and Mr. A. H.
Dymond, formerly editor of the Globe,
hu been appointed to succeed him in

Mackenzie will sail for Europe early in
May, where they will stay some months.

dry goods establishment Stratford by
means of a skeleton key, and stole
quite a quantity of silks to the value of
Margaret Hogg was arraigned at Har-
risten on Saturday on a charge of shoot-
ing, with intent, at one James Close.
The case is not concluded yet, but from
the evidence it seems to be a serious
case. Nothing but mere chance seems
to have saved the life of Close. She
seems to be a desperate character, mak-
ing her boast of having shot and killed
many With pistols.
