A. Stewart, Minister of Agricul-
ture and Food, has announced.
Agreement has been reached
between the AI;inisters of Agricul-
ture for Canada, Ontario and
Quebec with respect to the fed-
eral and provincial price support
and 'subsidizati On programs for
manufacturng milk. For the re-
mainder of the current dairy year,
Ontario will institute a provincial
subsidy On the basis of ,25c per
hundred pounds for manufacturing
milk. Quebec will continue its pre-
sent subsidy policy. The Ministers.
agreed that the Canadian Dairy
Commission should assume com-
plete responsibility for support
and subsidization of manufactur-
ing milk at the beginning of the.
next dairy year on April 1, 1967.
The support program to be es-
tablished at the time will in-
chide an .increase in price of at
least 25c per hundredweight,
basis 3.5% milk. It was agreed.
that the provinces of Ontario and
Quebec would withdraw subsi-
dies as of March 31, 1967, and,
that it was essential that prov-
ineial mechanisms be in effect
that would insure' that the bend
fits of the program accrue to
the producers.
