ANXIETY -AND TENSION
Anxiety and .tensi01:. comprise
one of the most common disease
states that we see today, the Can-
adian Medical Assopiation says..
Tension usually follows anxiety
and we might think of a tension
state as being the result of an- ,
xiety or apprehension over one 1
or more problems. Anxiety may
be of the chronic variety due to
the common stressses and strains
of e veryday li ving, and in, cer-

dividuals this form of anxiety
causes chronic tension states
'with many different presenting
symptc.ims.
TlieSe symptoms may obscure
the basic itaxietY problems in the
patient. Or the anxiety, resulting
from seine unusual stress or worry
wined may cause an acute tension
state, even in very stable per-
sons, With the acute situation;
the symptoms are usually more
obviously of the anxiety type.
The 04.4,A. says the acute type
of anxiety .state generally is more
responsive to treatment in that
the unusual situation causing the
condition is more likely .to be
of short duration. The chronic
type is more resistant to. therapy
since it is harder to relieve tlu
everyday problems that initiuted
the anxiety condition,1tTith help
