have passed a by-law to regulate the Installation of new entrance
ways and the k mprovement of existing entrance ways that impede
the flow of water.
The by-laws require:
That any person wishing to have a new entrance way installed
to his property from any Huron County Road or Township Road
of the Townships listed MUST secure a permit from the County
Engineer, or Township Road Superintendent as the case may be.
2. That the work will be dope by the municipality only after the
permit is issued,

UCW August Meeting
The September meeting of the
8th and 16th Unit of Duff's TJCW
was held at the home of Mrs.
Jan van Vliet ou Monday even-
ing August 29th.
Mrs. James Smith was he
charge of the devotions.

scripture was taken from Luke 21,

Mrs. Harold ,Bolger conducted
the besiness. The minutes of the
last meeting were read by the
secretary. Roll call was answered.

sent, on October leth. The 8th
and 16th Unit are to look after
flowers for the church for Sept.

Miss Sherrill Craig, who spent
the summer in Grand Bend, has
returned home.
Mr. and Mrs. William Dins-
more of Brampton, were visitors
with her parents,' :Me. and Mrs.
Gordon McGavin.
Miss Ruth :Ritchie, who is a
student nurse at St. MarY's
Hospital, Kitchener, was home
for the weekend with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Ritchie.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Lawless,
Burlington, were eleitors with
Mr. and. Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull.
Mr. and Mrs. Win. Humphries
and family attended the Knetchel
sponsored picnic held near Kitch-
ener.
Miss Anne Shortreed 'has
gone to Goose Bay, Laheador,
as a member of the high school
staff.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McDonald
and M'r.and Mrs. Nelson Marks
have returned from a motor trip
to Northern Ontario visiting
Sudbury, sSertli Bay end. Temisk-

Mr. and Mrs. .Allen Searle and
family visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Gerdon Saunders of Royal Oak,
Mich. Lenny Satttiders returned

Interesting Talk
Douglas Lawless, who is super-
intendant of Burlington public
schools was guest speeker at the
August meeting of the Walton
Wonien's Institute.
Mr. Lawless told of a trip he
made to Europe and the Soviet
Union in November of last year
when he wan one of la Canadians
who visited sohoels in Switzer-
land, Bulgaria, Bast Germany
and Russia.
With colored slides to illustrate
his talk, Mr. Lawless gave a
most informative talk descrile
ing the, differences, and similar-
ites of their society and ours,
and compared, Canadian, and
Russian education. lie had visited
their schools, talked with the
teachers and took part in discus-
sions with educators and officials.
Pictues of Engel, Marx and
Lenin, founders of Communism,
hang in most classrooms, as ours
have pictures of the Queen.
A discussion period followed.
The speaker, who had been
introduced by Mrs. Wm. Turnbull,
was thanked, and presented with
a sift by Mrs. .Tames Clark.
The program was in charge of
the citizenship and education
committee, Mrs. James Clark
and Mrs. Wm. Turnbull,
Mrs, Roy Williamson, presi-
dent. was in charge of the
business session. Mrs. Gerald
Watson. secretary read the min-
utes of the previous meeting.
Mrs. Herb Tra.viss was the
pianist for the evenikg.

Bennett were .appointed enter,
toil-nent committee for Oceolpee..
The annual Court Whist Ladies'
Night is to be held on November
16th. Each member is to invite
three ladies.
A commentary' on 1,ho. recent
-14-1. Ghee' Club 00Itree. "Accent
on Accessories was -gisren by
Miss Sherill Crieg, Mrse. Kenneth
McDonald and :Mrs, Gerald Wat-
son conducted the course.
The fall course will be "The
Supper Club" conducted by 'Mrs.
McDonald and .. Mee Nelson
Marks. The leaders' course ,will
be held in Clinton on SePte 8 and
Girls who are 12 by Sept. S'
wilt be eligible for the course. -
Walton Institute will assist in
the booth at the • International
Plowing Match. in Seaforth • on
October 10th.

Of Bride-elect

eous shower at the home Of Mrs.
Cordon McGavin. Contests were
enjoyed eonducted by Mrs, Neil
SlcOsivin. Brian McGavin, Bruce
Dinsmore and Ruth Thamer pre-
sented the shower gifts. Miss
Buffinga expressed her thanks
for the gifts and to the hostess.
