Any Medication, including the
common pain relievers, may cause I
undesirable side effects in, cer»
tain susceptible individuals and
the medical community and
pharmaceutical industry are
becoming increasingly aware of
the importance of these un-
expected and un.desirable effects.
,One factor of concern. is that
a Patient may be self-treating a
potentially serious illness, which
may be organic or functional
and related to a nervous con-
dition. There are many people
who have complaints which can-
not he explained by an organic
process, but if a person is con-
tinually taking Medication, he is
doing so for some reason which
should be investigated.
Of course there are many
people who have headaches, for
instance, that defy diagnosis
these are. eventually labelled as
tension headaches — but this
should be a diagnosis of exclus7
ion after other important causes
have beet riled out. The use of
pain relievers in such cases does
not present an important prob-
lem of addiction.
Because of present laws a pat.
tent has great difficulty in get-
ting any drug that is potentially
addicting with repeat prescrip-

creased in the last few years,
thus lessening the chance of an
individual becoming casually or
accidently addicted.
