NEWS, ITEMS.•
During the past tour woolcs,
there has been four main topics
for conversation in our village,
The Clerkship appointment ball
games and no milk delivery and
the disappearance of Art Henry,
have a letter here from Mr.
X who says the Clerkship (must)
in Brussels be let by tender and
would 1 write a column about it
and tell the people how they are
being imposed upon. Well here's
the letter. I'm not a member of
the bar. years ago I was fairly
well acquainted at both the
Queen's and the American bars,
but that was years ago. However
Mr. X even if our councillors
don't know anymore than Char-
lie McCarthy, I credit them with
brains enough to know if tender .
is required. Now, let me "start
my letter.
Welcome back to Brussels. Belli
King and family. You are good
citizens and I am pleased to see
you. It would be real nice to
have you as a neighbour as well,
Mr. X suggests your politics are
now of the best, Mr. King, and I
agree, but good heavens, what's
that got to do with it. I can't
dislike a person because their
politics and, policies are differ-
ent to mine. They have as much
right to their views as I have to
mine. Right now I am not inter-
ested in Canadian: politics
Since that new song "Off to
Dublin in the Green', has come
out I have joined the Irish Re-
public Association and will go
to Ireland next election.
Mr, X says Clerk's salary is
too high. Well, when I am barg-
aining for a Fair or celebration
I get all I can get. Of course,
King and I are different. No
matter how much money I am
getting I. know I am worth
twice as much and poor Bill may
have a conscieince that don't
agree. However, Mr. X, when
you consider tne fact that our
councillors are getting '200 doll-
ars a year and. Revee a bit more,
I would suggest our Clerk is un,
derpaid at less than six thousand.
You suggest council should be
paid according to what they are
worth, This would be terrible.
They would all be starved to
death in two weeks and we would
have to keep their wives, their
children.
Now, there are a couple of
rules regards ball I wish to be
informed about. The. batter hits
a high one that goes straight up
and is going to fall in, centre
diamond, Three runner all run
toward it. When eat of arms
reach they all stop and the ball
drops among them. What is this
play called? I don't mean by the
guy that's had and swears, but
by its official name. Then comes
a grounder. It's straight for short
stop. He puts his feet apart, his
hands down., but away it goes be-
tween his legs for parts unknown.
He takes after it and with help
of left fielder they get it back..
Would it not have been easier to
have stopped the darn thing in
.he first place? I have a beef
about all ball games and 1 mean
it. Why don't you take up year
collection earlier iu the game.
You wait until some of we older
fellows are near frozen and want
to leave. Boy, what I could
I teach you about taking up collect-
ions. Come up and see me some-
time. I'll increase your take 25
per cent. 1. mean this.
Next week I'll tell you how to
get your milk delivered. What
should be done about it, etc. etc
and the Etc is pure poison.
Bye for now. Hell Drivers
Truthfully
T. K. F.
