When you read tmo me Glor-
ious 1.2th of July will De past and
the Orange Walk over for 19,66.
it is so Called by the Loyal.
Orangemen, and by some of the
nasty people as a drunken brawl.
I would like to explain why
there seems to De excessive
drinking on this date and how it
came about.
The Irish, from either the
North or the South are not tem-
perance cranks. The Scotch have
their 'Wee Doch an Doris'', the
Irish a wee crap of the 'Cray-
thnr. R is always, hot , dry and
dusty around the Mi,ddle of Slily.
In 1690 , when the first Orange
Walk Was held there Were very
few kinds of refresindAnts. There
was no coke; no pepsi, no tang.
Just 5 kinds of drink, whiskey;
water, milk, tea and more %whis-
key, The water was not pure and
was killing (he I rish off, so
orders were given it Must be
1)oiled. Well, you could not ex
pert anyone to 'bolt water on the,
street of a strange town and
a celebration taking place; es-
pecially on a hot day and, neither
would you expeOt them', to 'bring
a cow along, You wouldn't ex-
pect anyone to choke to death,
either so the only oasis in the
desert was the hotel You went in
and and had one tor the heat,
one for the dust and one more
because the first two .made you,
hostile, unless you have a drop or
tivo of Irish blood in yeur veins
you won't understand. If you,
ha-Ve you will. After the third
drink you stand up and yell at
the bartender for a donble. You
will show the 'world that (When
you want .41 drink 'you'll drink
You'll drink and, its nobody's
blankety blank business. After
the double you walk over to the
nearest man; standing' and you
