The agriceltural estimates
Were before the. House this week.
SpeaklAlf for our Varty.
Pointeci out that Ontario has no
long term plan to cope, even
in a small way, with inadequate
farm incomes. The lack of long
term policy is the cause of most
of our urgent problems and the
reason we are in tne position we
are today in agriculture.

ation of Ontario's farm and feed
industry that will cover eyed-
thing from productivity to price&
The Conference will be held
October 25 to 28 this-year at
Vineland. I suggested a numb-
er of programs be undertaken to
aid agriculture and relieve
some of the pressures that have
been building up these past few
years. These steps were as
follows:
1. The government, in conjunction
with farni Organtzations, must
draw tip a long range plan for
agriculture. This complete and
comprehensive blueprint would,
recognize such th1ngs as the
exploding populalion, figures, lack
of any more tillable soil in 'Can-
ada and indeed in most of the
World; the fact that by; the year
2,000 at the current rate Of Pope,
lation increase in datiada ire
would need. another 46,00,00
acres of farm land to feed ode
people, farm labour policies and
recognition that our rural and ur-
ban economies are inseparably
integrated:
2. A complete reorganization of
the Department of Agriculture.
3. The 'Government of Ontario tin
dertake ifilleifediately to pay 25c
Per &A. to farmers shipping Milk
for inanufacteing ptirtiosee.
44500. grant on building of milk
houses and $400 on purchase of
milk cooler.
5. Forgive one-third of every
Junior Farmer loan to a maxi-
.-mum of $3,000. if the borrower
has kept up, within reason, his
interest and principal payments
for ten years provided he is
a full-time farmer.
6. Reduce the interest rate on
Junior Farmer Loans from ,5
per cent to 3 per cent-
7- Provide payment of a direct
grant of 20 Per cent of the pur-
chase price Of commercial ferti-
lizers tip to a maximum of $75,0()
per farmer per year.
8. A five-year plan for rural
development to ensure that
agriculture will enter a new era
accompanied by a program
of sound and cultural enrichment'.
