It is necessary to tell you that the price of milk is increased
by 2 cents a quart on most products, effective July 4th.
Please understand that this dairy is announcing the increase
with reluctance; it results :rom new and higher prices that we must
pay to the dairy farmers who are our suppliers and because of other
rising costs the milk distributors must meet in The economy. These
must be passed on to you if we are to stay in business to provide you
with what still remains the most ecoogirlical 7 healthful food of all.!
The decision to Increase prices was, not made by us alone, but
by the Ontario Milk Marketing Board, a government body which has
considered the rising costs of prodOcing milk, on the farm and whose
regulations we are required by law to obey.

A young man recently asked
me how I can talk with such en-
thusiasm about this nation Can-
ada and stir up patriotism when,
he said, many of the world's ills
are caused by natonalism.
That is a fair question from
a young student who, perhaps for
the first' time, IS taking a serious
look at the world around him
and finds so many discouraging
'problems.
The young student sees, on
the one hand, some small nations
'with their recently won "free-
dom" — jealous of their neigh-
bors and wanting to develop
power of their own — and on the
other hand, some of the largo
established countries seeking to
dominate the whole lot. Small
wonder young people today are
a little cynical about nationalism.
The best answer I could find
at hand for the young student,
was in the text of a talk on Cen,
tennal celebrations for 1967 given
by one of my Own staff members
to an Ottawa audience. A young
man himself, the Fpeaker
some of our plans for Canada's
3.00th birthday and he closed his
talk this way:
"Is it really worth living iu
Canada? Is it worth keeping
Canada together, . . . Personally,
I don't feel moved by nationalism
or patribtism enough to become
a, flag waving extrovert extolling
the virtues of my country. It's
a thing of the past to want to
become the most powerful cotin•
try in the world.
"Nationalism," he said, "is not
going to save the human race
front destruction. In my view the
direction of internationalism. is
the only one in which civilization
can travel and survive. That
means peepie getting along with
people. It means our freedom is
restricted by the freedom of
others,
"I believe that the example
Of many peoples in Canada get-
ing along well together and With
others in the world is a worth.
while' reason for our existence as
a nation. it is with that in rnizid
that m an ardent Canadian
that I am working for a Suecess-
ful national celebration hi 1961,"
he said,
How often have Criticized
Canadians for lying on ,Lne tray
chiatric couch searching in a
neurotic dreamworld for some
imaginary purpose or identity!
Here a, young man expresses a
worthwhle purpose so simply,
without the rolling of drums and
the waving of flags. He doesn't
need the old trappings of patriots
nor does he need the contrived
imagery of extroverted national.
i13114.
We have 100 years of historii
behind us without the stygma of
colonialism, without a reputation
for aggression against others in
the world and without quarrels in
our own family that we could not
overcome. Is not our young
ardent Canadian right in claiming
thfit the fact we continue to keep
our country together, proving that
a family of many ethnic origins
and cultures can get along well,
is reason enough to be proud of.
Canada?'
