REPORT FROM
QUEEN'S PARK
Murray Gaunt M,O,P.
Huron-Brucs
Recent Weeks have seen unrest
and dissatisfaction building up
among farmers in the province
at an accelerated pace. This has
resulted in many tractor demon-
strations on the Highways to
draw attention to the serious
problems with which the farmers
are foetid. The demonstrations
have been spotty but it is certain
that the numbers will become
larger and better organized
across the province unless the
Provincial Giovermnent becomes
more attentive and sympathetic
to their demands.
Officers of the Ontario Farmers
'Union left Queen's Park in Toron-
to empty handed on Tuesday.
They claimed they receiv-
ed no satisfaction from. Agricul
turth and Food Minister, William
SteWart, during a 3-hour meet-
ing at which they pressed their
case for the government to raise
and stabilise farm incomes.
After the meeting, William
Lnegdon of Lakeside. a director
of the Ontario Farmers Union
said' that in the past. the Farm
Unfon and farmers is general
have tried to avoie causing
havoc and inconvenience , but
this has failed. It meant that.
there was no other 'alternatives
but to resort to tractoc demon-
stratives, he
Ontario probably will need to

culture. Economist for Huron County,
Recruitment is in the hands of
the National Employment Ser-
vice and so, far growers appli-
cations for workers am being:
met.
'rue majority of extra farm help
will be recruited in Ontario al-
though N.E.S. also is recrei:nig
in Quebec and the Marbimes.
Oarbon tetrachloride is some-
times found in commercial spot
resmovers, and some people still
attempt to use it for difficult
cleaning jobs. This is a most
dangerous substance which slimed I
never be kept or used within the j
home. It is four times as poison-
ous as carbon monoxide, and
when ahorbed into the bet; by in-
halation or absorption through the
skin may cause permanent liver
and kidney damage. If a person is
sensitive, or has absorbed alco-
hol, even a small quantity could
kill.
