Huron-Brue4t) Agricultural Minister, William Stewart, announced to the House that the price of milk being used for the manufacture of multi-milk has been reduced from $5.29 cwt. to $4.85. This decision was made by the newly created Milk Com- misSion, which rescinded an earl- ier descision by the Ontario Milk Marketing Board. The Ontario Milk Marketing Board had announced that begin- ning April 1 the price for milk 'used for multi-milk would be $5.29 cwt. Previously the price was $3.84 cwt. It was hopea tnat the price for multi-milk would be close to fluid milk, its niajor competitor, iii, Wetit of this pride change. ;George McLaughlin, Chairman Is collecting wool for grading and sale in, the co•operatiVe plan. Shippers may obtain sacks and twine free of charge from the above or their, Licen. sed Operators. Realize the highest returns for your wool by patronizing your own Organization. or by writing to CANADIAN. CO-OPERATIVE WOOL GROWERS LIMITED 40 St. Clair Avenue East Toronto 7, Ontario. .II11.111111.1MOMMNIMMOSedillillelr- -----e- — of the Milk Marketing Board pointed out that the $5.29 Cwt. price would place Multi-Milk in the same category as fluid milk. In addition he stated that any other price structure would be unfair competition to the fluid product. In recent years Multi-Milk sales have been cutting into fluid nen( sales particularly 1n North- ern Ontario. Consumers have been switching to multi-Milk solely on the basis of price. Multi-Milk is simply ordinary Milk with the Water content re- duced. The consumer simply adds water prior to use. The ina.maacturers of Multi -milk objected to this sale price change and met with the Milk Commission to appeal tbe decis- ion of the Board. As a result the Minister announced the decision to reduce the price to the pro- ducer to $4.85 per cwt. The first open enrolment period in OMSI,P, the Ontario Medical Services Insurance Plae yesterday hat been extended 2 weeks to May 16. Coverage still oegins July Y. The Minister Of klealtn; Dr. Dymond, said the extension is necessary because many pension- ers are confused, some wrongly believine tney have been enrolled in the scheme automatically. OMSIP enrolment totals 1,100,000 Persons plus those re- ceived in the last few days which could bring the total as high as 1,250,000. OMSIP has facilities designed to handle medical insurance for about 2,000,000 persona. Apparently the confusion has arisen over the difference be- tween Old Age pensioners and Old Age Assistance pensioners. •IPersons on Old Age Assistance are automatically enrolled in, OMSIP but those receiving only 'Old Age Security pensions must complete applications if they want OMSIP coverage.
