COUNCIL PLANS

malting arrangeneeets to get
underway plans for Centennial
activities for Brusiels.
The "various organization will
be expected to participate to
mark Centennial Year here.

with the enthusiasm the occasion
deserves.
On Her Feet Again
"Have you an old pair of shoes
that would be easy on the feet?"
the refined ole lady of 72 years
asked the Salvation Army wel-
fare worker.
Her husband had passed away
about Christmlas time and now
she was alone. They had been
happily married for 54 years and
had lived in their own little
cottages which they were buying
on a long-term aanortization, plan.
Now her husband was gone
and with him his Old Age Pen-
sion, so that the income was
reduced to half.
The aged enquirer had badly
crippled feet caused by fallen
arches and a. hammer toe which
was turning black by reason of
poor circulation. She 'was attend-
ing a clinic each 'Week and getting
treatment, but this was of little
help seeing she was unable to'
obtain the type of_ shoes she re-
quired.
After proper inquiry immediate
arrangements were made to get
properly fitted shoes which, would
make her feet comfortable. She
was taken to the store for spec-
ial orthopedic shoes. Her face lit
up as she watched the clerk care-
fully measuring her deformed;
feet.
Literally, the aged and lonely
widow is once more "on her
feet!"
This is only one of many such.
Stories told by Captain Ferris,
who is in charge of the operat-
ions for the Salvation Army in
this area.
You are asked to support the
Red Shield Appeal during the
month of May.
This is a. community effort and
the many avenues of services are
available to those who stand in
need in this com.munity.
The Canvass will be carried out
in Brussels by members of the
Royal Canadian Legion.
