Davies, President of the Ontario Milk Distributors' Association which represents 30Q Ontario dairies. "Milk remains the best con- sumer bargain of any food, in terms of nutrition and health values. Its price increases have been among the most modest of all in a fast-moving economy," he said. • Further increases in payment to dairy farmers by the distri- butors, required by PreVinoi4 government marketing Orders, might lead to other increases for the same reason, he predicted. He went On, to cite Pominien bureau of StatistWS reports on average retail food prices in Canada as proof that milk and dairy foods lagged behind many other food items in price in- creases, He credited this to the dairies search tor improved efficiency and their, acceptance of profit margains that are sub- stantially lower than in most other industries. Mr. Davies said DES reports showed that dairy produCts in- cludip,g ice cream, cheese in November 19t5,. were relatively lower in. price than cereals, beef, pork, ,fish, fruit and vegetables. Since 1949, dairy products have 'risen 26 per cent in price while the increase has averaged 38 per cent for all foods. "The dairy industry needs to tnaqce no apologies for its service to consumers in keeping dow11 the cost of living," Mr. Davies .said, "It must co-operate with provincial authorities who have required increases payments to dairy farmers for GMT raw mater- ial, and will continue to do so. The industry is striving to main- tain efficiency and to survive in the face of rising costs for other commodities. #4 ERIUSSELS CAUTIOUS • STYLETTES" CLUB Fifth Meeting The fifth meeting of the Brus- sels Cautious Stylettes was held: on April Sth, 1966, at the home of Norma and Mrs. Mair.
