H u ron-Sruce) This week saw the beginning Of the Department of Labour esti- mates. The Labour Minister, in a statement in the Legislature took a firm. position against reduction iu the maximum work week below the present limit of 4S, hotu'S. 1.1.1.11 He stated that people will either moonlight in the extra leisure time available to them or 11 the restriction itself may prove so costly to the growth of the economy as a whole, that ex- pansion will decelerate and em- ployment will remain static. The throne debate was complet- ed on Thursday night. The Amendment by the Liberal Party was defeated. There has been a lot of interest generated by the. Steven Truscott case. The 'Provincial Legis- lature is not involved in the case at the present time except in the area of turning over tne material including the Funk Report and the transcript of the trial to the Federal Authorities for review. The case is being studied by the SOM.:LW!' General, Hon. Larry, Pennell to determine whether the case should be re-opened. L:1lUer questioning in the On- tario 1.,egisht tare Lae Attorney U,eneral, Aaiun \%isilart, admit- ted that. Steven Truscott's lawyer did not use a report from the Department on the °outwits of ,jhynne kla1 rper's stomach. The contents of the stomach were used to establish the time of death which was a key thew): in the Crown's case subsequently leading to Truseott's conviction. The analysis or the contents of the murdered girl's stomach was made by laboratory technician John Funk, 111r. Funk was not called as a witness at the trial. Dr. T. L. Penison of Stratford, the pathologist wno testified at the trial said that the stomach contents indicated that food had not been there more than two hours before deatn. Other pathologists questioned about the case have said it is almost impossible to determine the time of death through. exam- ining the stomach contents alone. This is only one of several pieces of 'vital evidence that was neglected or overlooked at the trial, according' to Mrs. Isabel THE UNITED CHURCH CIF CANADA Minister: Rev, A. M. Johnston B.A., S.D.
