LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Speaking as a life-long resident
of this area I feel I MU st express,
My feelings, and I'm sure the
feelings of almost all farmers in
this district, concerning this an•
nual controversey about "Open
Nights" in Bruesels.
The merchants give as their
reason for Friday night opening,
"to fall in line with other towns."
Why do they not tell us the real
reason?
This is a farming community,, 1
believe Brussels, merchants are
very dependent on their rural,
customers. Therefore, I would
say that we, as farmers, should
have some say in the matter. Is
it more irnporant to "fall in line
with other towns" than it is to
co-operate with the customers
who provide a great Part of the
merchants' income. This attitude
on the part of the merchants will,
I believe, have an extremely
adverse effect on urban-rural
relations in this area.
