Companies or trade unions that
deny people employment or pro-
motion because of age will face
fines up to $500 under legis-
lation introduced in the legis-
lature this Week by Labour Min-
ister IL L. Rowntrea
The Bill called the Age. Discrim-
ination Act was given first read-
ing.
The Bill is designed to prevent
discrimination in employment in
connection with hiring and
treatment of persons between

Many capable older people are
being denied the opportunity to
work because of the popular idea
that once a person reaches a
certain age his usefulness as an
indiiividual in the work World is
no longer apparent. Of course this
is not true, so it is hoped that this
Dill will do a great deal to cor-
rect this situation.
