AMBROSE CHURCH Guest Speaker: Doug Miles Subject: Workmen's Compensation and Pension Plan Also Pictures on Trip to 'Michigan Tickets OM CLIFFORD. BRAY NORMAN HOOVER President Sec.-Treas. GENTLEMEN'S CLUB NEWS, ITEMS About two weeks ago I receiv- ed a request and a demand to appear before the business ex- ecutive of the Gentlemen's Club. I said, at last they realize how e and my -secret weaopon won a great victory in our euchre over the Legion, and they are going to show their appreciation by presenting me 'with a. gift 04 great value. Maybe a Timex watch, maybe an electric razor or even a gold top walking cane, For effect and to cause a bit of sensation I arrived a few minutes late. I entered the room singing,, as loudly as I could, "When the Saints Co Marching In". Something was wrong. There were twelve men sitting around with one vacant chair. Their faces were as long as Cal Krauter's after the last general election. As I started for my chair Clare Long tripped me and I fell flat on my face. Those nearest spat on me. I didn't mind except Jim. Kerr and Frank Ws. Little were chewing tobacco. Roy, Turvey threw, and hit me, on the neck, with a lighted cigar. This seems trivial unless you are aware of the kind of stinkers he smokes. They smell worse tnan a horse barn that hasn't been, cleaned opt for a couple pt weeks, Ivan Campbell's for in- stance. Gordon Grant tried to choke me wail my own necktie. Charlie Draper grabbed the broom and started to clobber me. However Charlie Was very polite, after every whack he gave me he said pardon inn Thynne, coming back again. Jack Wilson ordered me on my feet, said I was dirtying the ,floor. As I arose Watt Scott sict his old dog Bozo on me. I was bitten twice, once on the, ankle and once higher up, as I sat down. Whiter Kerr com- menced to read the following: We, the members of the Gentle- men's Club, unanimously demand your resieriatiein imMediately. Your actions and your character are not up to standard as requir- ed by our club. Your have disgrace ‘ed us in eyes of the public, the manner you conducted our friend- ly euchre contest was a dastardly deed, that only a diseased, dis- tfurbed i, ;distorted, devilish vidual like yourself could devise, You have broken up homes, pitted husband against w4e, 14YerS against sweethearts, and made us feel i;nsignificant, when we meet a onzileiNivilew\iv• ill ptLey Luezi:n.alpbe'r4eani),.r now in true sportsmanship. 'We 'are de. (luring tile, last game nun and void and sending a letter of apology to the Legion. The reading went on and on even mentioned they would buy me a one way ticket, if 1 would go to Rhodesia or Zanzibuin. I paid no attention. I was deep in, thinking, A little man with horns and a long tail was. whispering in my ear. I got to my feet, and reached the door as someone, kicked. me where the dog had taken his second bite. I ran as fast as I could to the Legion, and told them I had great news for them. I said, on Thursday evening. February 10. I am going to play for the. Legion. I said, I'll even, take as any partner yoUr poorest player, Lenny Lamont. I told them I Would teach them how' to pull down two, points •on their own counters and slide up two points on their opponents. x offered to under the finger nail so they show them how to put wax j could tell every card.. I even offered to divulge ray greatest feat. How an ace could disap- pear as easily as silverware from a church kittchen. Sam, Workman held up his hand, and said, we have heard enough. We can't use you. Len Lamont says, we don't need you. Bid Bell says w,e don't want you. Ray Bronsoni says, you are the first rat to enter our new hall. I heard 13ev. Riley say he would fumigate as soon as. I left. Tom 1VIcFarlane says, well, that's right now. I took a notion i should be home right ,then,J Walking up Tory Hill. I was a bit discour- aged but I said all great Men have had thein disappointments, Pearson, Diefenbaker, Walt, Mason. ph, Oh, I says, why didn't I think of this' That night I sat down and wrote my friend; Terry :Mason. What he did should only happen to a skunk and not to the Gentlemen's Club. After all, they are very human, and didn't know" who they were dealing with. Don't forget the next game, Legion versus Gentle- 4e,n's Club, Feb. 10th and don't forget to watch the Post to see what happens when Terry Mason, a man with considerable ,ability, and men with tremendous brain power, combine our great talents.
