Fatal Car-Truck. Crash Near Brussels
Claims The Life Of Toronto Woman
Mrs. Selena Play ,Johnston, 49,
of Toronto, was killed Monday
morning in a car-truck crasli
Highway 86, six miles north or
Brussels.
The accident occurred et the
intersection of Huron County
Road 12 and Highway 36 at the
Morrisbank corner,
Mrs. Johnson's car was in
eseesioe with a tractor-trailer
truck driven by Harry Spies. of
Elora, who escaped with an in-

Mr. Spies was, thrown from
the truck into a nearby field
'when the vehicle jricknifed fol-
lowing the collision.
The Johnston car, which was
in collision with the rear dual
wheels of the truck, was dragged
into the north west ditch and
flattened beneath the truck.
Mrs. Johnston was thrown. out
of the small car And pinned be-
neath the wheels. She was re-
'ported to have been returning
home after visiting a sister in
Goderich.
She is survived by two sons,
Roger and Clarence of Toronto;
three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Annie)
cfee I re of Lochalsh. Mrs.
Ben (Bessie) Chisholm, of Goder-
ich: Mrs. Carl (Jean) Pollack, of
Kincardine; and a brother, James
Grant. of Chicago,

This is the second fatal accident
that has taken place at this inter-
section in the nest few month,

former well known resident of
Brussels, died in Toronto, on
July 21.st. leer husband,
Yolieck, who conducted a salvage
business for a, number, of years
predeceased her in 19,52, She is
'Survived- by one daughter. Mrs.
S. (Gertrude) Rappaport and
three sons, Ben, Sam and Harold,
all of Tomato. One son, ;Joe, pre-
deceased her is 1950.
WILLIAM MAXWELL
William J. Maxwell, 90, of
Wroxeter, died in Wipgliam and
District Hospital, on Monday.
Born in . Morris Township, he
was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs, ,Jarrett Maxwell; He Jived
and farmed there until he retie-
ed to Woxeter several years ago.
His wife the former Antrle
Westlake died two years ago,
1-le is survived by a sister, M.
Addte Rae, Calgary, Alta; five
nephews.
The, faneral service was held
from the D. A. Rann funeral
borne, Brussels, on Wednesday
at 2 p.m. Rev. F, W. Taylor,
Gerrie and Wroxeter United
Church minister offciated.

MRS. MARGARET CARDIFF
Mee Margaret Cardiff, 96, wid-
ow of the late Richard 'I Cardiff;
passed away Wednesday August
25th, 1065, in the Callender nurs-
ing home, having been, a semi-
invalid for many year.
The former Margaret Lowe, a
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. John Lowe, she was born in
Grey Township and spent most
of her life in Brussels locality
and in the village.
She is survived by two daught-
ers, Moe Harvey (Berva) Dennis
and Mrs. Douglas (Wilma) Hem-
ingway, both of Brussels; seven
grandchildren and thirteen great
grandchildren.
Her busband died in 1922, also
two sons, Ernest and Harold pre-
deceased her, and as well, a
grandson, Denald,

Melville Ptesbyterian Church, Of
which Mrs. Cardiff Was a menaber
officiated. Burial was in Brussels,
cemetery.

Willis Bakery Sold After
47 Years In Business Here
The Willis Bakery has been
sold to Win, Stephenson of Bras-
eels.
The Bakery had been operated
hero for the past forty-seven,
years by the late W. A

carried on by memhers of his
family.
Mr. Stepheneon, who has spent
all his life in Brussels, and has
been employed here, and in Dub-
lin as manager, by Export Pack,

Larry Ward, son of Mr. and. Mrs.
Lawson Ward, of Grey Tees/Ishii?,
had a narrow escape from. serious
injury, or, death.
He was driving home from
,Blyth, where he is employed,
On Thursday, about midnight, 'In
the fog he missed the curve
on the 5th concession of Morris
on the Mitsldrts of Brussels, and
crashed into a hydro pole. The
pole broke under the impact and
'wires came down. Hydro was
off in that area for a time.
Me. Ward suffered head laCer-
atioris' and was removed to Wing-
ham and District Hospital by
antbulanee. He was able to return
to Work this week.
The car was demolished.

Bussels Ladies Softball Team
won the final game of the four-

games with Brussels taking the
last; and deciding ,game by a
10 - 7 score
Goerich got a commanding lead
with four runs in their first time
at bat. Brussels whittled down
their lead, tied them, only to be
topped by the visitors until late
in the game When some good
fielding by the locals :and errors
by the Goderich girls paved the
way foe the scoring runs that
gave Brussels the game and the
series.
