NEWS ITEMS This comes to you direct from Hospital in Goderich, well, its not right in Goderich, In fact its the Ontario Hospital, and if nam- ed properly named, would be called a mental institution. Why people with brains seem to shy around the word mental I do not know. The ones Who have no brains will never need to visit this place. We are called nuts, cuckoos, crazy, silly, foolish, unwise, balmy, bees in our bonnets, no brains, etc. etc. etc. but if we had no brains we wouldn't be here. There are some pitifnl cases.. Hitler, to a certain degree had the right idea. Why should hope- less cases carry on a worthless life for years and years. Science has raised the life span 10 years, What for? People to suffer aches and pains and misery and no good to themselves or anyone else. Everyone is foolish in some ways. Stop and think, do you do anything you want kept to your- self? Certainly you do. This morning I watched my fellow men at the breakfast table. The first one had a sort of long face, getting a bit bald. He would put his op and plate together with a loud noise, then he would always count to eight. Upon en- quiry I found out he had been a milkman and clanging the cup and saucer gave him, the same old thrill as scaring and waking People with milk bottles. The number he counted was the coffee stops. Poor fellow, he was kicked on the hips by one of his own stallions, and his brain was affected. Two feet- higher up he wouldn't have been hurt at all. Over in the corner was a big red:faced guy with an engineer's cap on. His case was most pitiful. Pe kept shaking pepper OR his bread. He had been a caretaker of a high school up north and was an ardent fisherman. One day someone found out where the big trout were and someone else got the prize. Poor fellow! His trout only weighed 12 pounds and ,Francie Du.nca,n's weighed 12, not counting the lead put in its belly. A very 'dapper little man was running from table to table and lifting up cups, saucers and plat- es. He was looking for dimes. Poor fellow! T-Te at one time had a hotel and restaurant, however e lost all his trade as the • customers had to furnish their own saccharine. He came from a sniall town with two hotels. Well, someone told .him that under the change of rules he should hire an entertainer. The. other hotel did this very thing. They contracted, the Kansas' Farmer for a year, musician, entertainer, and good will orn.baSSador. In a week they hind all the trade, .The poor fel- lOw T Mentioned above bad to close down It Was sad to See how bard he tried, out On the Street with , a (cryV bell yelling, free beer, time, TTnfoltv into Ttftwiriti Farmer Put the other hotel on the map in two years they bought the King Edward in Toronto and a home on the French Riviera. Two otner fellows were talking hockey and baseball. They each had whiskers and wore a rabbi's cap. Upon my word they remind- ed me of Bill Stephenson and Louis Ebel. Well I've just been away filling Out papers, a certain test. About 100 questions. The last question was, "what is the worst thing you have ever agile". I made sure of this one, I wrote, quote, trying to figure answers to these darn foolish questions. We had a show here last night, "The Modern. Gospel Singers", Beautiful melody, I am arranging for them to come to Brussels Some Sunday nite. For heaven's sake don't miss them. They are 'Wonder- ful if you like spiritual numbers and "Darkie" melodies, I will stake my reputation as a show- man on this group. Their leader is a coloured man from, Tennes- see. You should hear them handle "Old Black Joe". Will see you soon I hope and good luck to all, especially Leek, Campbell, Ebel, Stephenson, Davidson, everybody. Truthfully Yours 11.‘• 17% the Pops.
