Hear Address On "History Of Huron" The March meeting of the Majestic Women's Institute was held in the Bruseels Publio IsihrarY, March 10th at .:2 P.M The Ode and the Mary Stewart collect opened the meeting. Mrs John Lowe, president, in the chair. The February minutes were read. The financial statement showed a balance of 31,27, There were 21 members and 12 visitors were present The Quilt was en display and tickets were handed out for mem- bers to sell.' Nominating committee are Mrs. D. Hemingway, Mrs. Walter Kerr, Mrs. E. Wilson. Moved by Mrs. E. Cudmore, sec- onded by Mrs. L. Nichol, we dci not send delegate to Guelph. A letter was read re Brussels food forum to be held in Brussels Legion hall April 1st at 8 pan. No admission. All community ladies are welcome. It's called "Trix with a Mix". Thank you cards were read. It was moved by Mrs. D. Hem- ingway, seconded by' Mrs. Wm. Evans we send Mrs. D. McTaggart a floral arrangement. Mrs. L. Nichol, convenor of Historical . Research took the chair. Roll call was well answer- ed with a favourite quotation Current events were given by Mrs. Harold Speir. Mrs. L. Nichol then introduced Mr. N. Wale of Gorrie, who was the guest speak- er. His topic being History of Huron County. He spoke of the County Museum at Goderieh, how it had grown from 100 articles to 7,000; that Lake Huron was dis- covered by Champlain in 16/5. At first East and West Wawanoeh, Howick, Morris and Grey were not Huron County but Queen's Bush. He told of a thriving Brus- sels; the first fire engines were made here. There were many other Manufacturing businesses too. 1860 opened up the first rail road, Buffalo to Goderich. 1842 was the first council. Mrs. L. Nichol thanked Mr. Wade and Mrs. George Davis pre- sented him with a gift. A singsong followed with Mrs. Walter Kerr at' the piano. Mrs. B. Cardiff and M. D. Hemingway leading. Mrs. George Davis gave a "Grandntother's Reading". There were three great grandmothers present. Mrs. YC. Hemingway introduced Mrs. L. Cooper, of -Ktppen, who showed mock Printing. Joyce was thanked by Mts. D. Hentingatay and Presented 'with it gift .14lie toot, Atiefieft *411 WO by ERNEST SMITH Ernest Smith, 64, of con. 6, Morris Townehie, [lied Fridey, March 12th, in St, JoselPh's Hospital, London. He was horn in Morris Town, ship, a son of the late Mr. and. Mrs. 'William smith, and had lived there all his life. He Was a memb. er of St. .Tohn's Anglican Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Letta, Hawkins; one son; Stewart, of Goderich; one daught- er, Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Morrow, Grey Township; three brothers, John of Arthur; James and Howard, of Morris and five grandchildren. The funeral service was held, from the D. A. Rann funeral home at 2 p.m,. on Monday, conducted by the Rev. H. L. Jennings of St. John's Church. Burial took place in Brussels cemetery. MRS. ERNEST PLUMB Mrs. Ernest (Thelma) Plumb, 67, of Brussels, was taken to Winghani and District Hospital 'Tuesday, March 10th, and passed away the following morning. Mrs. Plumb, the former Thelma S.malldon, was born in Cranbrook, Ont., where she remained prior to her marriage in 1917. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Virginia) Ullyot, Camp Borden; Mrs. Dr, (Lois Plumb) Detwiler of. Toronto; Brothers Thomas and 'Wm. Smaildon of St. Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, • The funeral service, conducted by the Rev. A. Johnston of the 'United Church of which she was a member, was held on Friday and burial was in the Brussels ceme- tery. Acting pallbearers were Roy Sellers, George Davidson, Frank Thompson, Win. King, Kenneth Fischer and Charles Fischer. Junior Farm- G1'.s debating team won top honors in the Huron County contest also held in connection with seed fair, Members of the team were Bob Higgins, R.R. ,5 Brussels, John Stafford, RR 1, Wroxeter John Wightman, RR 1 Belgrave, and Jim Spivey, RR 4 Brussels, On Monday the Huron County County Junior Farmer rink, skipped by Murray Hoover, came third in the 11th o'clock draw in the Ontario Junior Farmer Bon- spiel held at the University of Guelph. MRS. STANLEY alACHAN Mrs. Stanley Machin, 69, of 166 Argyle north, Listowel, died in Listowel Hospital, on Friday, following a lingering illness. The former Ivah May Speiran, she was born on December 3rd, 1895, in Grey Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Speiran. She was a member of Listowel United Church. Her marriage to Mr. Machan took place on June 10, 1919, at Ethel. She is survived by her husband, cue son, Ralph, Listowel; three daughters, Mrs. marl. (Jean) Dunn, Cranbrook; Mrs. Douglas (Louis) Whitfield, London; Mrs. Beverley (Glenna) Weber, List- owel; two brothers, Stanley Speiran, Ethel; Ross, McKay, Calgary, Alta,.; sisters Mrs. Harold (Wilda) Keys, Brussels; Mrs. Clayton (Bertha) Bruce, Toronto; Mrs. Jack (Isabelle) Noble, Hanover; Mrs. Wm. (Norma) McNair, London; 12 grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Lloyd G, Stapleton at the McLaughlin and Reed fun- eral home, Listowel, on Monday at *2 p.m. Burial was in Fairview cemetery, Listowel. Mrs. Grame Melfnoarialad.ed on a shimmering ice surface aglow with the re- flection of multi-coloured lights, the revue was a deightful spect- acle with 70 local skaters between the ages of five and seventeen, from Brussels and the surround- ing communities of Walton and Ethel, and guest skaters Misses Chritine Price, Judy Estey, Mary Sills and Danny Carey. Rev. A. Johnston, as the capable master of ,ceremonies, presided at the microphone of the public address system. This year's revue "Around The World", Presented numbers featur lug various countries, with appro- priate musie and gay costumes.
