Talk On Cheesemakaing
Heard. At Walton W.I.
The story of cheesemaking
'Was told to Walton W.T. by Peter
Cutter, manager of the UDP Co-
operative, Wingham, at a meet-
ing in the Community Hall. At
the conclusion the members were
served with various varities of
cheese.
The meeting was presided over
by Mrs. Kenneth McDonald with
Mrs. Herbert Traviss at the
piano. Mrs. George Hibbert read
the report of the secretary-
treasurer. A card from the W.I.'s
foster child in Hong Kong was
received.
Six dollars is to be forwarded
to the International Scholarship
'fund. The committee members
for the card parties, to be spon-
sored by the W.T,, are Mrs.

Elects Officers
The 'Wessels Public Library
Board met at the Library on
Thursday, January 28th,

William L. Backer, a Brussels
businessman for almost GO yearS,
died Wednesday, January 27th,
in \\'ingham and District Hos-
Born in BruSsels en October
5th, 1877, he Was the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. (1.eurg(‘• Backer.
After learning his trade in
Lis towel he moved to the United
States where lie worked for sev-
eral years. On April 10th, 1901,
he married Annie McNichol; of
Cranbrpok, in Shoshone, Ida.
They resided in Bonnes Ferry and
Spokane, fOr a time, returning to
Brussels in 1.904, where he opened
the Buteher store.
He Was a member of St. John's
Lodge & A.Iy1,, Western S!ar
Lodge :t.O.O.F. and a life long
member of the United Church.
Me is survived by his wife,
Annie, son George and daughter
Pearl, all of BrusSels, also one
brother, elart., of Fort Francis,
Ont.
Funeral service was held from
the D. A. Bann runeral home on
Saturday, January 30th, at 2 P.n.„,
conducted by Rev. A. M ; Johnston
of aarssele" United Church. In-
terment was in Brussels cemetery.

CURLING NOTES
The first Bonspiel of the
newly organized Brussels Curling
Club was in the Brussels arena
on Wednesday. A large number
Of spectators on band to witness
the games. Despite the inclement
weather 1G rinks participated in
the spiel.
'Ohe trophies and other prizes
were donated by the Briteklels
Curling Club and the Grand
Champion Trophy by the. Brus-
sels Livestock Sales Yards. All
these attractive awards were
well worth fife efforts of the
following enthusiastic curlers.
