WHAT WOULD
YOU DO?
ONTARIO MEDICAL ASSN.
TO ENCOURAGE POCTORO
The Ontario Medical Assoc-
iation has recogniz.ed the diffi-
culty of smaller towns in getting
and retaining the services, or a
general practitioner. This as-
sociation has also noticed with
some alarm that graduate doc-
tors would prefer to locate in
large cities, or specialize
some branch, of medicine. This
tendenqy is aggravating the
shortage of doctors in the smal-
ler centres, and ,there seems no
indication that the condition will
improve.
Chief attraction toward special-
ized medicine and the larger,
cities is that (lectors so located
can better control their working
hours, and can earn sufficient
money with less effort, and have
time for recreation, or to spend
with their families or hobbies.
In an effort to equalize the
province, and give small town
practioners some protection or
their private lives, the Medical
Association wire January first,
introduced a new scale of char-
gPs, which has been adopted by
all medical men.
Office visits have been scaled
upward from $3.50 to $4.00.
A house call during the day has
been moved from $5.00 to $6.00.
This has been done to discourage
people from demanding honse
calls When they could be attend-
ed to in the Doctor's office.
The charge for house calls at
night remains at $10.00. but
here there has been a change In
time limits. Originally night
calls were those made after mid-
night and before 8.00 a.m.
Now a night call is one made at.
any time between 8.00 p.m. and
8.00 a.m.
.All doctors of this area have
adopted this rate schedule, and
they are appealing to the public..
You can't escape it. Even the
most cautious driver must ex-
pect to be faced with a driving
entergen cy.
Emergencies call for quick act•
ion. Before reading the answers to
this emergency problem try to
figure out what you would do.
You are driving on a winter
day. You gradually hedome
aware of a headache, a tightness
across the forehead, trouble with
your vision, and finally, a creep-
ing feeling of nausea. What
-would you do?
These are the classic symp-
feels of carbon monoxide poison-
.r v. if you are in traffic, imtned-
iately Open the nearest window.
It is hest to turn the wing window

can and get out of the car. Walk,
around.
DO NOT DRIVE AGAIN
Find a policeman or call a taxi
— ask to he taken to your doctor
or the emergency entrance of
the nearest hespltal.
Chances are the fresh air, or
a few whiffs of oxygen, properly
mlynIntotored will got you otraight
again n a short time. But your
brain has been poblone0 and you
need medical attention.
Have your cars exb,atist Oyu,
