1965, "declared W. L. Austin of
Oshawa, Out., presiuent of the
National Safety Council of
Canada.
Mr. Austin's estimate did not
include industrial accidents. He
pointed out that the League was
doing an it could to oring abeut
public awareness of the dangers
of accidents off the highways.
"It comes as a shock to many," he
said, "that next to tne highway,
the home is the most dangerous
location. Too many people think
of home as a haven of safety, but
the opposite is true."
Mr. Austin also emphasized the
need for strick care in sports and
recreation, on the farm, on and in.
the water, and where children
are concerned. "We simply must
pay more attention to the perils
that surround us. While the acci-
dent in non-traffic areas are not
increasing unduly, too many
fatalities and injuries occur there
each • year, and too many of them
need never happen," he said. •
Mr. Austin is assistant to the
Oeneral Motors of Canada. He will

ings in Ottawa in raid-Tanuary.
where non-traffic safety will be
