Reeve Of Grey Returned By Acclamation
Election. For Council And School Board
Brussels Reeve Receives Acclamation
The Grey Toes/Damp Nomin-
ation meeting was held the
Ethel Community Centre on.
Thursday afternoon, Nov, 26th
with a small crowd in attendance.
Nominations were as follows;

Plection for tormentors and.
School Trustees to be held Satur-
day, December 5th. • Melville Lamont was appointed
chairman for the meeting.
Speakers were, as followts:
Clifford Dunbar. the first speak-
er gave a report on the County. He
said it was an honour to be elect-
ed to Road Committee for one
year term, and gave a summary
of road expenditures, Being a
director of the Children's Aid
Society he has learned there is
a great deal of work done for'
welfare of children. He said the
jail is over a hundred years old
and out of date.
Kenneth Bray, said council
hopes to continue road building.
He thought it would he a good
'plan to do brush spraying in ,
sections. He mentioned renovat
ing the office and tnought it
money well spent. He said the
Krauter bridge would be built
next year,
Clifford Rowland, spoke brief-
ly and stated ne would try and
serve to the best of his ability if
elected.
Wm. Bishop, said it came as a
eurprise to have his name up
a,nd hadn't, decided, but if an
election he solicited their vote..
Lawson Ward, said Ken Bray
had given a good outline of work
done by Council. If an ,election,
he would appreciate their vote.
Archie Mann, stated that Colin.
ell had tried to do best for every-
one. He hoped snowploveing
would not be too costly. He
had not decided whether or not
he would stand.
Glenn Huether, congratulated
the School Board on aehievment
of new school. He felt people Were

and sometime in the future town-
ship business would oe taken over
by the County. He also mentioned
the Reeve's acclamation.
Charles Thomas, said if he
stood for election he felt he could
be of service.
Clifford Dunbar replied to quest-
ions asked on welfare, mans and
the school debenture issue.
Maxwell Demaray, chairman of
the School Board, thanked the
present Board for co-operates
He gave report on costs of the
new school and told the deben-
tures had been sold at a good.
rate. He said title drilled well
was 163 feet deep.
Alex Canferon, said he was
surprised 'to be nominated but if
hp decided to stand asked fdi;

Santa nas been to all the
surrounding towns but he still
has the children of l3russels on
his list. He will be in BrusseIe
Saturday, Dec. 12th, at 2 p.m.
when he will met the children at
the library with a treat for all.
Free Skating
After Santa's visit there will be
2 hours of FREE skating for the
children, at the arena.
Santa's neipers are already
busy giving the main street a
gala appearance for the holiday

The music for the regular
dance was supplied by the Cava-
liers of London. The attendance
was aPProximately 150 teen-
agers who enjoyed themselves
on Friday. November 27th. All
teenagers are invited to the next
dance on Dec. 11th. The /11-T
thank Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Straty-
chuk- and Mr. and Mrs. J. Pipe for
being cheperones at the dande.

A" disquieting indifference in
regard to municipal matters was
displayed by the, small number Of
ratepayers in attendance at the
nomination meeting on Friday
night.
Wm. H. King was appointed
chairman for the meeting.

Brussels member on the new
School Area Board is George
,McCutcheon by acclamation and
P. U. C., C. L, Workman, acclam-
ation.
Reeve Kreuter expressed his
thanks for acclamation for an
other term of office. He' reported
on County Council affairs in-
cluding Health, or which com-
mittee he is a member. He stated
Huronview is filled to capacity;
new county roads under con-
struction. He also spoke on .
Village matters, road program,
there will be no hardsurfacing o1
streets in the near future because
of the sewage nroblem; the
waterworks debentures will be
paid off in 1968; unsafe trees are
to be cut down on a winter work
program, new trees will be
planted. Mr. Kreuter also spoke
on the new school board arrange-
ment and said it was fortunate
Brussels has a new school.
Wm, Stratychuk spoke briefly
saying five streets had been
Paved at a cost of approximately
$5,000 and talked also about the
policing problem. He stated he
would not stand for reelection.
Hank TenPas, member of the
Fire Dept. committee said there
bad been no major fires and
complim,ented the firemen on
their efficiency. He stated if
elected he would do his best in

Lawrie Cotisins Spoke briefly
on finances stating the residen-
Rai mill rate had been reduced
by 11/- mills. He was willing to
stand for reelection.
Cecil McFadden said he had,
learned a lot as councillor. It was
not possible to do all the things
one would like to do. He also
spoke of the Problein of policing
the village.
Mrs. kernaghan expressed her

Jack McCutcheon stated he
would do all he can if eleeted,
George Mutter thanked his
nominaters and said he would
help the village in any way pos-
sible.
Ivan Campbell thanked them
for the nomination and expressed,
his intention to stand.
C. L Workman reported on
P.TJ:C, affairs, the new PIMP
house, plenty of water; new lights
to be installed in the south end of
the village if finances permit.
Howard Bernard, chairman of
Brussels School Board gave a
brief report on school businesss.
George McCutcheon, Brussels
member of the new school area
board, spoke on the act and ex-
plained the assessment, and also
of the Maitland Authority.
The Rev, H. L. Jennings said
he wished to go on record in ex-
pressing thanks to the Brunets
School Board for the fine work
they have done.
R. B, Cousins gave a full report
on Wingham. Dist. High School,
the Wingham and Dist, Hospital
and also the Bruesels Library
which has been completely re-
novated and phimbing installed.
His report on the WDHS will
appear in full in a later issue of
this paper.
COUPLE HONORED ON
25th ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Cardiff were
taken by complete surprise by
relatives Saturday night In
honour of their 25th wadding
anniversary. A humorous And,'
highly entertaining evening en-
sued.
Win, Stratychnk Skilfully per-
formed the duties of M. II, lead-
ing the guests though numerous
tricks, gatheS and singing, Fol-

was served, Robert Rallentyne
read a congratulatory address
and the couple were then pre-
sented with a matching step-Up
and coffee table set-.
