LAYMEN'S SUNDAY AT
;MELVILLE CHURCH
Sunday 4th October was ob-
served as Laymen's Sunday in
Melville Presbyterian Church.
Each year several laymen from
the congregation combine to con-
duct this special service, and this
year those taking part were Mr.
Jim Bowman, who conducted, Mr.
Ross Smith, who preached the
sermon, Mr. Graham Work and
M. Tom Shortreed who read the
Scripture passages. Each of
these men carried out his part

Women's Missionary Society,
the leader, Mrs. John Schnock ,
followed the Thanksgiving We-
i gram in the "Glad Tidings",
Scripture readings were given by
Mrs. Allan Smith and Mrs. Veitch.
Mrs. Herman ;Whitfield was
pianist for the meeting. A Thanks-
giving reading was given by Mrs.
Mac. Engel and, Mrs. Stanley
Fischer led in the Glad Tidings
prayer. The president, Mrs. Earl
Dunn, conducted the business
part of the meeting. Ten memb.
ers and one visitor Were present
and responded to the roll call
with a Thanksgiving verse. The
secretary, Mrs. Alex Steiss, read
correspondence relating to the
new study packet and it was de-
cided to order it. A brief report
was given by the treasurer, Mrs.
John Perrie, and Mrs. Schnock,
supply secretary, reported on the
contents of the bale which weigh-
ed 3,5 lbs. A splendid topic was
given by Miss Alice J. Forrest.

Benediction. The November meet.
ing is to he held at the home of
Mrs. Stanley Fischer. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Veithh, Mrs,
Stanley Fischer and Mrs. Mac
Engel.
