A musical and literary entertainment
was held in this place on Tuesday even-
ing 23rd inst, under the aui.tioes of

remain *tending. Mr. D. G. Mackenzie
being celled to the cheir a lengthy and
well selected programme was commenced.
The Lucknow String Band furnished

of the bagpipe by Mr. A. Finlayson of
Lucknow. The singing of Mr. James

songs of Mr. Edward Richards were frc-

Misses Samh Mackenzie and Mary Mur -
,lock and Messrs John Murray and D. A.
Mackenzie perfumed their parts admir-
ably. Some excellent readings and reci-
tations were well rendered. The singing
ef "God Save the Queen- brought the

with the Nile School was held in the ,
ittethodist Church on Thursday evening I
Dec.23rd. The entertainment was quite 1
a emcees. The church was really crow-
ded although a fee of lOcte was charged
to defray expenses. Ftev. Mr. Rice
acted as chairman, end interspersed the
proceedings with some witty reinarlu
which were heartily enjoyed hy the audi-
ence. At the oboe of the entertainment
Christuma Trees were held for the benefit
of the children. The most comical part
of the entertainment was the arriving of
Santa Claus in his most unique drew
The children highly enjoyed .. this part of
the programme. The Ralph and
Snieath from Goderich rendered some
beautiful pieces ef music both vocal and
instrumental on the occassion.

We Wawanosh held in the Township
Hall on Monday of last week, the old
council was elected by acclamation. The
officers are as follows: Reeve, Charles
flirvin; Deputy Reeve, Edwin Gaunt;
Councillors, Chas. Durnin, Wm. Kina-
han and John Washington.
ENTERTAINMENT.- An entertainment
was held here on Friday evening last by
•he pupils of 5, S. No. 4, West Wawa -
nosh, under the care of their teacher
Mr. Morgan. Mr. R. D. Cameron was
.alled to the chair, when a good selec-
tion of music, readings, recitations and
dialognee vraa given by the pupils. At
the close of the entertamment Mr. Mor-
gan was presented by his pupils with a
handsome chain and locket, accompanied
by the following addresa:
