LETTER TO THE EDITOR
The Brussels Post
Att.: The Editor
Sir:
t would like to reply to T.K.F.
and the column he wrote in the
last issue of The Post.
Dear
You asked in . your column
"where is the mercy of God,
where is His goodness and His
kindness" as you considered
the 'people suffering in hospital.
Without going into the problem of
suffering I would suggest to TH.
F. that he consider these signs of
God's presence: If you had looked
you would have seen mercy,
goodness, and 'kindness, in: the
nurses, doctors, mends, orderlies
fellow patients, the medicine, the
wonderful healing powers within
your own body; yes, even that
preacher with, his platitudes on v
the radio reflects the compassion
God has placed in us for our fel-
low-men. Where is God? In those
people mentioned above.
During World •War 2 two men
stood together on the battle-
field. One of them looked out
bitterly over the hideous sights
of "no man's land" and said:
"Look, out there. Where is God
now?" The other also looked,
looked at the torn ground, the
jagged, broken wire, the bodies
of wounded men and dead men;
but looked also at something
else. Out into the zone of fire
two stretcher-hearers were go-
ing. "He is there," he said,
"There is God".
Yours for the
other side of the coin,
Al John s ton
