Given By Rev. H. L. Jennings The June meeting of the Majestic Women's Institute was held in the Public Library June 11th. The meeting opened with a delicious Dessert Luncheon served by Mrs. D. Hemingway, Mrs, C. Hemingway and Mrs. H, De Vries. This was served in the tea room, cafeteria style. Promptly et 2:00 p.m. the re- seller meeting was opened, pre- sided over by the president, Mrs. John Lowe. The Ode and Mary Stewart Collect was used in open- ing the meeting. The minutes were read. The treasurer's report show. ed a balance of $47.40. A Short Course was discussed and Millinery chosen. Mrs. R. Stephens, convenor of Public relations, then took the chair. Rell call, a Place in the N.W.T. The motto, Arts of the North, was given by Mrs. Cudmore. krs. D. Hemingway led com- munity singing with Mrs. Walter Kerr at the piano. A report of the District Annual was given by Mrs. C. Heming- way, six members attended. Mrs. R W. Stephens then in- troduced the guest speaker, Rev. H. L Jennings who spoke on the NWT and narrated each picture, which was enjoyed by all.' His territory was centred by Port Norman. Transportation was by' water air, dog team and on foot. Mr. Jennings also brought some souvenirs he had brought 'back. He explained each one of these. Mr. Jennings .alscialrhe spoke in the Indian tongue at church services. Mrs. Harold Speir thanked Mr. Jennings, and Mrs. Cudmore presented him with a gift. Mrs Lowe then took the chair and thanked everyone for attending. The Sunshine fund was taken. The National Anthem closed the meeting. CARD OF THANKS . Matheson A, Engel "Local Couple Surprised On 40th Wedding Anniversary The home of Dr and Mrs. Stephens was the scene of a pleasant surprise on the evening: of June 11th when a group of friends and neighbours came in with gifts and good wishes on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. It was a complete surprise, but a very happy one. They were also the recipients of many cards of congrateat- ions. Mrs. Roy Cousins gave the presentation address and Mrs. George Evans brought in the gift of a tea wagon, A sumptuous lunch followed the happy occasion. Survey Canvass Here Next Week The committee for the T. 13. survey ,met at the home of Mrs. L. Cousins on Tuesday morning. Preparations for the clinic are progressing favourably. The canvassers will be calling at each home the beginning ot next week. Each member of the household .receive a card to be filled in and taken to the Dates for the clinic at Brussels Public School are: Monday, June 29 and Tues- day, ;Tune 30 2 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 10 p.m. P.eading of test will be: Thursday July 2, and Friday July 3, 2 - 5 P.m. and 7 - 10 p.m. Mary .'Watson Chosen Brussels 'Hi-T Queen Mary Watson was crowned I-11.T Queen of 1964-05 at the final dance df the 1963-64 season, held on, Friday, ,Tune 12th with about 15'0 teens in attendance. Music was by the Cavaliers from London. We tha,nK our advisers, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Prior and Mr. and Mrs. George Wheeler for all they have done for the organization this year. Our thanks also go to all those who contributed re- freshments and decorations that helped to make our final dance a success All those who contributed cookies for the dance may have their cookie tins returned by contacting Darlene ?Meehan. Armstrong celebrat ea their 45th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, June 14th. They held open house after- noon and evening when over 120 relatives, friends and neigh- hours ealled. Guests attended from Gode- rich, Stratford, Toronto, Water- down, Seaforth, Wingham, Clin- ton, Blyth,.'tenser;, Walton and T3russels, Neighbours Honour a:ample Prior To Their Departure Forty neighbours and friends honoured Barry and tosie Watson and family in the library prior to their departure to live in the West, A sumptious supper was pre-' pared and served by 'the host- esses, jean Stfles, Nancy Mc- Lean, Peita Cousins and Grace Cousins, George Cousins read the address and Barry and Jodie were presented with TV tables owl the children with toys. All left wishing the guests of honour a very happy and pros- perous sojourn is the West. ROBERT G. SMITH 'Robert George Smith, S9, Ben- sets, died Sunday in Wingham and District: Hospital. The son of the late George and. Mrs. Smith, he was born ini Morris Township where he lived and, farmed all his life. His wife, the former Rozella. Cochrane, died 25 years ago. Mr. Smith was a member of St. .Tohn's Anglican Church. He is survived by two sons, Garvin, of South Porcupine. and George of Morris Township, and six grandchildren and three aireat grandchildren. The funeral service was held at the D. A. Rann funeral home at 2 P.m, on Wednesday con- ducted by the Rev, H, L. Jenn- ings of St, John's Church. Business included the reading of the minutes, roll caR and. correspondence, Lion George McCutcheon presented the treas- urer's report which revealed a successful financial year. It was decided to accede to a request to sponsor the Brussels WOA.6. Bantam ball team. Ralph Pearson was to complete arrangement to provide swim' ing instruction at the Seaforth Lions pool for the children of this community.
