The J,r..cessi.1i, after being formed,
made a tour of the principal streets of
the town, thence to the Town Hall,
where the guests and firemen were treat-
ed to a generous reliant, prepared under
the superintendence of Mr. E. Clifford,
who acted as caterer on this occasion.
About three hundred visitors sat down
to partake of dinner, amongst those pre-
sent being A. Mieklejuhn, Mayor of
Harriston; J. F. Blackwood, agent for

After dinner the visitors were conduct-
° ed to the pumping house, when the
Mayor explained the working and cwt
of the system. A Firemen's demonstra-
tion was then organized, the members
of the various companies present taking
part. The distance which rho men were
required to run was three hundred yards
from one given point to another. The
following time was made by the different
companies: -Listowel, 1 minute 38 se-
eonda; Clinton, 1:19; Brussels, 1:15;
Heaforth, 1.22; and H ingham, 1:25. The
1s Company had the misfortune to
/i when they had turned on the hy-
drant that there was no water. \t ing-,
hart's trials was not considered satisfac-
tory on account of the high wind pre-
vailing at the time, and they were allow-
ed a second trial, which resulted in 1
